I just figured that in today's technological society we live in, someone could manufacture a protective cup that could withstand a heavy blow....

Maybe fighters think that if they get hit low and not react, then spectators will think less of them....

SOme probably do overreact especially if they're loosing the bout and it's a chance to gain a point. But it don't mateer, once that cup slams againts your nuts, it hurts. There are only a couple spot like i said. The main spot is if it's on the lower part of the cup and makes your cup raise upwards.

The cup is there to protect you from serious damage from accidental low blows. If you get caught dead on the cup is stops your nuts from rupturing but it still hurts. And if you get caught low on the cup particularly with an upward swing then the cup wil simply squash your goolies against your body causing a huge amount of pain.

Several fighters have had extremely bad injuries from low blows, the most famous examples being Scott Buchanan who was hit low by Roberto Duran and Max Schmeling who infamously became the only man to win a world title on a DQ due to low blows when he was blackballed by Jack Sharkey. In both cases the fighters were hospitalised.

Now Atlas was talking about a specific low blow which was a glancing blow on the top of the cup. A deliberate low blow will drop the toughest fighter.
