    Mayweather gets Hatton offer

Promoter Dennis Hobson has offered Floyd Mayweather £5m to fight Ricky Hatton in Britain later this year.
Mayweather says he is willing to come out of retirement to fight Manchester's light welterweight champion.

"I've spoken to some of his people and they've been very receptive. It's a very substantial offer," said Hobson.

However, Hatton's former promoter Frank Warren claims he could promote some of his future fights after settling his libel row with the fighter's father.

Warren agreed an out-of-court settlement with Ray Hatton after deciding to sue him for comments he made in a radio interview in 2005.

"I'm glad we are sitting down and the matter is behind us," said Warren.

"Ray and I have agreed that we'll sit down when he gets back from Las Vegas to discuss future fights for Ricky."

Hatton, who split with Warren two years ago, has just finished a three-fight deal with Hobson.

Oscar de le Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions and Don King are also both believed to have approached the unbeaten Hatton, who made it 43 wins out of 43 by stopping Mexico's Jose Luis Castillo last weekend.

But Hobson is confident he can negotiate a new deal with Hatton and insists the expected huge attendance figures could bankroll a clash with Mayweather.

He added: "There is no reason we can't do it over here. We would be happy to align it with pay-per-view time in the States so it could suit both sides of the Atlantic.

"Mayweather is saying he wants to put pen to paper and this is his big chance to do so."

Hobson also revealed he has been in talks with representatives of IBF light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi.

"Talks with Malignaggi's camp have been encouraging but that is definitely a Madison Square Garden fight," said Hobson.

"Ideally we would like to get the next one secured in this country for Ricky."

I thought Hatton was ducking Floyd? haha to all you Hatton haters on this forum -

Now lets see how big Floyd really is. Come out of America and fight Ricky in his own backyard

See the other thread. This is old news. Offering $10 million to a guy who just made $20 million and retired and asking him to fight in the UK when you already promised to fight in the States is the same as saying, "I don't want to fight".

Hatton ducked like we all predicted.

I don't have a very strong opinion about this..

Although I don't like that Hatton's people are trying to set terms.

        Mayweather initiated invitation.

The negotation here is extremely vital.

This seems like a rush job to me..

They're leaving room for someone to back out.

I just hope Warren doesn't get too involved in negotiations, or the fight with Mayweather may never happen.

$10 million to fight Hatton is an excellent first offer. Let's not forget that Floyd's guarantee against De La Hoya was $10 million. I'm pretty sure that Oscar's first offer was less than that.

This is a negotiation in which both the teams are trying to negotiate the best deals. Don't forget that this is not a mandatory anything, so all the moves have to be made by promoters.Hey maybe Floyd will say "I want ten mil to fight in vegas" or maybe he'll say "I want a guaranteed fifteen to fight in the UK". That's up to Mayweather. An offer has been tabled by Hatton's team and that's as close to a commitment as you can get at this stage.

This "UK" thing better not turn into a deal breaker..

I don't see how it can. Unless Mayweather's team says "Forget it" and walks away there are so many options open.

Hatton vs Mayweather in the UK would make more money overall, what with the increased gate reciepts, and two sets of PPV figures. The only thing that would be missing is Casino money.

It would at the gate, that's for damn sure.

If I'm Mayweather I wouldn't want Rick having home court advantage..

                  Hatton harnesses that energy.

If we're talking as many as 60,000 Brits all pulling for Ricky -that's pretty heavy.. And certifiably distracting.

I agree with that. I think Floyd is probably used to having fans root for the other guy. He fought Gatti at Atlantic City.
