He was sparring professional fighters at 16, but that's because none of the amateurs would get in with him. And he wasn't sparring world champions.Comment

Have you ever watched the 80's version of Tyson?
Tyson used a combination attack to hit to the body, hit to the head.
If anything, Tyson is way above Hatton in ability when he was on top of his game (with Rooney).
You do not see the head-movement, combinations, speed, power, and quickness of feet that Tyson once displayed in comparing the two.Comment

It's also worth pointing out that Hatton's style is entirely different to Tyson's. Hatton avoids getting too much punishment by stepping around his opponent and stepping away after landing. Tyson avoided punishment by moving his head and bobbing and weaving. Hatton rarely crouches and weaves, Tyson spent most of his career in a crouch!Comment

Well just because your a World Champion(cant believe im saying this in here) doesnt mean somebody young can actually kick your ass. If you get hit in the face and get dazed, and about to get knocked out. There isnt going to be someone to come in the ring saying your a World Champion so I cant let you lose to a noob. If you have ko power you just have it.Being a Champ isnt going to stop your ass from getting caught with a mean ass left hook to the chin.Comment

Most champs are not going to be caught by an inexperienced teenager like that though. After 90 amateur fights, 43 professional fights and countless rounds of sparring you pick up tricks and a feel for fighting that you just don't have as a wet-behind-the-ears 14 year old. Saying that a 14 year old, even a 14 year old Mike Tyson, could defeat a seasoned professional champion in his prime in a boxing ring is totally bizarre. It reminds me of this kid who lived on my street when I was growing up. He was a big fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger and would swear that Schwartzenegger could lift up a truck and was banned from the World's Strongest Man competition because it wouldn't be fair on the others. Mike Tyson doesn't fart thunder and **** lightning, and at 14 was a young teenager. A phsyically outstanding young teenager but a young teenager all the same.Comment

It could happen, yes. You know I've heard that a lot of pros, especially the top guys, just won't relax and take it easy when sparring. Even if they're told that their partner is an inexperienced amateur they won't take it easy, because you never know when it could be a ringer, a young pro who wants bragging rights, a stooge for an opponent who is there to cause an injury. This is precisely because it could happen that an inexperienced sparring partner could hurt a champion. The likelihood is that the amateur or the inexperienced fighter won't manage to hurt a champion. There's a reason boxers train.Comment
