Hatton Clinching At 147?

Collazo is a solid fighter and a pretty strong guy even though he's a boxer. Hatton beat him but probally had the toughest fight of his career. Everyone talks about how he uses his Clinching as part of his D to shut off the Opponents O all together. My question is will it work against the big strong elite at 147?

People were telling me about his record last night and how that proves the clinching works so well but could he get away with it at all against guys like Cotto, Clottey, Mosley, Margarito, Williams, Cintron, Floyd, Baldy, and so on? I think those guys are too big & strong to let Hatton do that without paying a heavy price. This is when your skill level will really be tested. He also wont outwork any of those guys like he has done the others. You could argue different about that when it comes to Floyd but his skill level is so high that he has a different kind of netuarlizer.

You know that it would make alot of people on here happy and would be justice to alot of people to see him try to do that against those guys and get destroyed in the process. What would happened? I know one thing, no one would be crying about the ref in those fights. The opponent would handle it his ownself.

or could Hatton still do it at 147? I think he has a great style that would still give alot of people at 147 problems but he doesnt have to hold. I think if he does that then he will be in trouble because I think it will play into those big strong guys hands but if he fought regular then he could beat him. I dont get upset with his holding, I just get upset when its constant. The 3rd round wasnt that bad last night. If he can do it like that but just a little less then I would be fine. Hatton has always held but he didnt do it at this high rate. He reminds me a little of when Hopkins use to punk guys in his prime. Remember the Ketih Holmes fight? It was similar to Hatton's fight but the difference is that Hopkins use to land big hard shots and throw mad combos in between. Then he would push you off your feet. Thats what Hatton should do. He should still hold but do it half as much and throw like 2 more punches between the holding. It would take it from being somewhat ugly to being so

no, hatton has no place at 147. he rehydrated only up to 149 in his fight with castillo. so he CAN make the weight, but hes really too small for welterweight. cotto, margarito, williams, cintron would all crush him. mayweather and mosley would box his brains out. and i seriously doubt any of them are going to want to drop down to 140.

ricky should stay at 140, even though its no longer a great division. he could probly be a good welterweight, but against the elite fighters, he gets squashed.

Yes he clinches, but what it also does is smother his opponents. Keeping them from being effective. That is why I feel he might be a tougher fight for Mayweather than Cotto would. Cotto applies pressure from the outside, but he is also open to being hit as he comes in throwing punches. Hatton smothers you when he comes in and keeps you from being effective. I still feel Floyd would beat both, but have a tougher time looking great against Hatton because Hatton gets right in your chest.

Yeah but thats not really all that true. It wasnt that succesful against a skilled guy like Collazo and in the past Hatton use to get hit alot coming in. Thats why he holds even more now. Im just saying that Castillo & Tszyu were a little to old & slow to prevent it but the guys at 147 arent. Its not going to be even a quarter as easy to smother those guys. Floyd is too skilled. If Collazo can get off then so can Floyd. All the other guys may flat out be too strong, powerful, and quick for him to smother them. It wont be the same trying to smother a monster like Cotto, a strong warrior like Clottey, and quick & powerful guy like Mosley, and huge guy like Margarito.
