it looked that way to me.... but who knows.

when cortez took the point for low blows after not one single warning, after repeatedly letting hatton hold really frustrated castillo imo.... combine that with corrales's family taking his paycheck from the fight , castillo could have just said **** it...why bother?

no he didn't quit, that shot had every ounce of ricky hatton into it. it was a great shot right to the floating rib. i think it paralyzed castillo because when you watch after castillo spun around and then decided to go down he couldn't get his legs to cooperate, he had one leg hanging out in his half squat and he was trying to pull it in and couldn't.

i think that shot would've dropped anyone that was in front of hatton last night. and had he gotten up it would have been real bad for castillo or who ever the opponent would've been...............................

Probably a combination of him being hurt physically and mentally. He was a beaten man.

If Castillo got up he had a whole minute to go with that kind of pain. He was done. I do think that a big part of him waiting for the ten count was psychological. He knew that if he got up he was going to be brutalised. Tszyu couldn't bear to face another three minutes of Hatton's onslaught, Castillo had much further to go than that.

Plus there's something intensely dispiriting about being hit hard in the body, and Hatton was landing that left hook at will.

That was just 1 helluva' body shot. He put it right where it had to be. I think you also gotta' realize that he also took like 3 hard body shots to the same area just before Ricky planted that last one on the numbers. Costilla didn't quit, he got beat. It's that simple.

As someone had already pointed out on another thread.

Could it be that Castillo is still paying off that $250,000 fine the NSAC slapped him with due to not making weight for the second time against Corrales. I mean, you have fighters not making weight all the time, but Castillo gets the heaviest fine of them all. actually, I don't know of any other fighter getting fined for not making weight , I know of fighters get stripped of their belts for not making weight.

So basically, Castillo was virtually fighting for free last night due to his financial problems. Why bother w/ a tough task in Hatton when he's out getting screwed by NSAC.

If Castillo quit because of money problems - wouldn't winning set him up for bigger fights and bigger paydays?

Castillo got beat plain and simple.

I was thinking about the same thing. But, fighters don't really think about the future much. It is proof that there are far more fighters who end up broke, it's rare to see boxers like Ali, Foreman, DLH, SRL, MH who have done well for themselves life after boxing.
