... seriously, it's a nice bit of fun, but the way some jokers on here take it so seriously, as if it's something earnt in the ring (when most of the top P4P fighters haven't even fought each other, and certainly not in the concept of the rankings, eg. Winky can put on weight but he's not the same size as Taylor or Hopkins).

Discussion of a hypothetical, abstract concept is all well and good, but it seems like one out of every five threads on here is about it nowadays, to the detriment of the sport.

Someone had it right on here the other day - they had their £for£ list (or $for$), for the most value for money boxers. That's all that really counts.

It's utterly ****ing ridiculous to be praising boxers for being "P4P greats", when really the whole thing doesn't mean ANYTHING, is a realistically unquantifiable notion and has very little relation to what actually happens in a boxing ring.

Seriously, it don't mean ****. It's a HYPOTHETICAL concept. For posters on here to discuss it as something tangible is ludicrous. For boxers to discuss as something tangible is ludicrous.

I wouldnt call it a silly concept, if it was ring magazine and other organisations wouldnt lend such credence to it, it is mythical because it cannot be physically proven, but nevertheless p4p is and always has been another way of saying 'who is the best fighter in the world'

The FIFA World football player of the year, is that a deeply silly concept? because it cannot be conclusively proven that KAKA (who is almost certain to win it this year) is the best football player in the world, how would you go about proving it? you cant, its mythical also.

Because something cant be totally proven it doesnt mean its silly, especially when many fighters themselves take it very seriously and want to be on that that list, for some fighters, its probably more important than winning an alphabet belt.

Like many awards and ranking, p4p is subjective, that doesnt make it invaluble, it just makes it inconclusive.

See, that's the thing, the whole concept was created for Sugar Ray Robinson to market him as the best fighter in the world. Because without the excuse of P4P one would always argue that Rocky or Liston would whip Sugar Ray and he is just the best in his perspective weight devision.

As I said, p4p was created and is still used as a marketing tool to promote fighters. It can be used privately to make more or less, but stil vague list of who are the most prominent fighters but that is it. It shout not be sweared by like a bible.

I disagree, I think p4p holds alot weight in boxing today.

And wrongfully so, it is more of a boxing media hype then anything else.
Now, I am not saying that p4p is total garbage, it holds some weight to it, but not the way it is blown out of proportion by the media.

I mean we all took marketing in college and all know how it works. We all know that people like the "who is the best" lists and companies try to capitalise on it saying "our product is the best" in 20 font and having that little asterist to it which directs you to the bottom of the back page where in 8 font they tell you a million different prerequesites and exceptions when you can consider their product to be really the best.


The whole P4P, imo, should have that asterisk to it, like, you know, these "Biggest Allyear Sale" letters that Macy's send you.

yeah I mean Floyds "retired" but I dont know if hes actully done with boxing.
Its doubtful.
For example, if he says hes coming back to fight Hatton at welter, hes ranked number 1 p4p again.
