Gotzev Growling But Thinks King May Make Maskaev-Peter Garden Party Sept. 29

Oleg Maskaev’s promoter, Dennis Rappaport, has just amended his lawsuit against the World Boxing Council and others but, to hear mandatory contender Samuel Peter’s aggressive manager Iyvalo Gotzev tell it, no machinations will precent his hard-punching, long-suffering Nigerian from dethroning the Russian Sept. 29.
The latest jolt to Gotzev and Peter, who are co-promoted by Dino Duva and Don King, was the news that Duva defaulted after winning a May 7 purse bid to stage Maskaev-Peter for $3.2 million. Duva’s investors balked and he could not fork over the required deposit money (10 percent) to the WBC offices in Mexico City. Duva’s deault leaves runnerup King as the winning bidder.
“Sam is very, very upset but nothing will stop him from knocking Maskaev out on Sept. 29,” Gotzev said. “The date is solid, Showtime is solid and then Sam can go fight Walidmir Klitschko in a unification fight so people start paying attention to the heavyweight division. I don’t care if they have 20 lawsuits, Sam will dethrone Maksaev on Sept. 29.”
Gotzev informed ******************.com that Uncle Don, who was in New York Wednesday night prepping for a press conference in P.T. Barnum’s hometown of Bridgeport, Ct., (more on the “Black Barnum visiting P.T’s stomping grounds later), is speaking to the Dolan clan at Madison Square Garden about hosting Maskaev-Peter.
“I know Don’s talking to the Garden and I suggest a heavyweight doubleheader for them. My former WBO champ, Sergei “White Wolf” Liakhovich, is #2 WBA and he has to fight Nickolay Valuev, who is #1, or if he doesn’t want to fight, the #3 John Ruiz. Put both fights on in the Garden, why not?”
Gotzev said Peter will take out all his “frustration” on Maskaev. Now we’ll have to find out what Dennis “Rapstar” Rappaport has to say.
