    Fight Science

"National Geographic On Demand" is currently showing a program called "Fight Science," in which researchers used high-tech equipment to test different fighting styles. Experts in Boxing, Karate, Kung Fu, and Tae Kwon Do took turns hitting a $150,000 U.S. government-certified crash-test dummy. The Kung Fu expert hit with 612 pounds of force, the Karate expert hit with 816 pounds of force, the Tae Kwon Do expert hit with 917 pounds of force, and the boxer hit with 993 pounds of force, equal to a sledge hammer to the face. The boxer was Steve Petramele, who was 3-0-1 as a pro junior middleweight and is now a trainer. The researchers were surprised that the boxer delivered the hardest blow. I wasn't. Boxing doesn't get enough respect. The general public seems to view martial artists as almost super human and boxers as a bunch of dumb sluggers. I think Hollywood deserves some of the blame for that perception. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't be too surprised either..

So, were these guys all throwing the same shots, or were they striking with the most powerful blow in the arsenal of that style?..
