Nahh, I seen it. Williams wasnt really hurt at any point in the fight from what I remember, but I think he took a lot of shots. Dont know if he could take those shots from Margo. I am giving Margo a slight edge in this fight but I wouldnt be surprised at all if Paul Williams beats him, or even dominates him. I think we will know who wins at fight night as soon as we can see if Williams can take Margo's punches. If he can, he will probably win by decision.

I agree with you to a certain extent, Williams chin will be tested in this fight, and hopefully no one brings that up.

Do you think if Margarito is unable to hurt him, would he still win?

Williams defense defense is basically his offense, I think this will be a war, but a 12 round war where Williams will get his hand raised.

I know someone is going to bump this thread and do a "told ya so" crap or how a certain fighter was hyped because he lost, does'nt matter whether its margarito or williams, there will be a lot of **** talking for weeks on the forums if either man wins.

                To all Margarito Fans:

I swear I will be the first person to give Margarito all the credit for beating Williams no matter what anyone says, I am just confident that Williams will get the W, and If Margarito does I wont say Williams was hyped ,etc. or any other excuse I will give credit when its due, but you guys would have to give Williams credit as well if he wins or not make any excuses.

The best thing this will be Fight of the year, and the winner will face Cotto.
(Although If Williams beats Margarito im not sure Arum will put him with Cotto, he does'nt want to risk another fighter getting an L on his record, like Castillo will against Hatton, Margarito against Williams, and then Cotto.)

Tuesday afternoon, Arnie Morton's Steakhouse in Burbank, CA, was host to the initial press conference announcing the highly anticipated WBO Welterweight Championship with Antonio "The Tijuana Tornado" Margarito defending his belt against Paul "The Punisher" Williams.

This is a mandatory defense for Margarito (34-4 w/ 24KO's) against the undefeated Williams (32-0 w/ 24KO's) and it will be the eighth defense of his WBO Welterweight Championship. The fight is being billed as "Pride and Punishment" a reference to the pride of the champion, Margarito, and the nickname of the challenger, Williams.

Introducing the fighters and the trainers was promoter Dan Goosen who is the promoter for Williams. Meanwhile, Margarito's promoter, Bob Arum, was not present.

Goosen called the event a "can't miss" fight with "fight of the year" potential given the ability and desire of both fighters. Goosen praised Margarito for taking the fight rather than vacating the title and equally praised Williams for his persistence to fight the very dangerous Margarito.

Goosen said the winner of this fight will easily be the best Welterweight fighter of the world, above the winner of the Miguel Cotto - Zab Judah victor.

Goosen went on to introduce Williams trainer, George Petersen. Petersen started out by telling the story of how Williams approached him three years ago after sparring with Margarito stating his desire to fight Margarito. He said it has been a three year journey to finally make it to this point.

Goosen next introduced Margarito's trainer, Javier Tapatio. Tapatio angrily took the microphone and accused the Williams camp of lying about knocking down and cutting Margarito in sparring. Tapatio predicted that Margarito would knock out Williams and that Williams would run prior to being knocked out.

The events of the sparring that occurred between Margarito and Williams has clearly bothered the Margarito camp and they were on the defensive in the press conference.

In taking the podium, the challenger, Williams seemed supremely confident of victory. "The truth never changes", Williams said in cutting Margarito and hurting him to the body. "I'm real anxious for the fight and this is my time to shine" Williams said.

"I'm going all in for this fight and not leaving nothing to the judges" said Williams. "I am going to mop the floor with Margarito." "I am bringing it to him full blast."

When asked to remove his sunglasses for photos, Williams happily obliged the photographers and said "These are the eyes of a winner" before confidently walking off the podium.

In taking the podium, the champion Margarito said "I don't understand what Paul Williams is talking about" in talking about the cut. "He said he cut me, he knocked me down in sparring, all lies."

Margarito continued "He's not the first to say that he is going to take my title away and nobody has done it yet." "I am going to defend this title for my fans" said Margarito.

"On July 14th, the lies will be exposed and then we will hear another fighter with an excuse" said Margarito to conclude the press conference.

The fight will be held on July 14th at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, and will be the main event as part of an HBO televised tripleheader. Tickets for the event are $300, $150, $75, $50 and $25 and are on sale at all TicketMaster outlets and online at www.Ticketmaster.com, as well as The Home Depot Center Box Office with the first bout taking place at 5:30PM and the main event scheduled for around 8PM

“No way do I take Margarito lightly because, right now, Margarito is the man. I expect him to be at his very best.”

“This is just the start for me. It is all or nothing, and I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”
