Do UFC fans feel as though they must hate boxing to be UFC fans?
I'm more of an MMA fan that is turned off by the UFC, but it honestly seems the other way around. MMA writers aren't covering boxing matches and complaining about them and their broadcasters aren't taking shots on air.

I also don't think the majority of UFC fans were ever boxing fans or care much about it.

The irony is that all these 'bloodthirsty' fans actually boo grappling and want to basically see a boxing march with light gloves. Americans love knockouts and the quick finishes feeds into that desire and lack of attention spans.

The UFC is a very poor representative of MMA in my opinion.

Part of the 'problem' boxing has is that it alienated that 18-35 demographic by spitting out the racist "white hope" line every time an "anglo" boxer wins a fight. Boxingscene is guilty of it too - the day after the Kelly Pavlik win over Edison Miranda, I go to boxingscene and right up top is "Pavlik, the new White Hype?" Yes, Hype was the word on the article. Later that day, Boxingscene seemed to wise up and they changed the name of the article to something different. That right there explains why boxing has not been able to tap into a certain demographic.

The UFC fights may have ended early, but people showed up in hordes just to see Mike Tyson knock out a guy in 45 seconds as well.

It's kind of a strange thing, most MMA fans are not even normal sports fans in terms of football or basketball, let alone fans of boxing. And most boxing fans are not mma fans. Perhaps that will change in the future, but who knows. But I agree that the UFC is not a good example of MMA, as it pushes elbows and leaves blood all over. The now bankrupt organization PrideFC captured the spirit of MMA better...they would stop fights and clean up fighters who were cut mid-round if needed, and they made elbows illegal. It's too bad the company that ran it was corrupt and ran it into the ground.

If boxing is 'down' a bit, all I can say...don't blame another sport for problems boxing has created itself. It is easy to lash out at MMA and the attention it has from the 18-35 crowd, but I'll say it again - don't blame another sport for a situation boxing created itself. Boxing has nothing to blame but itself.

Thats the best part of MMA, cause of the small gloves. The fans love it.

But here, when this guy goes, they hate it?

        I dont buy it

Well, people told me after the story was published that fans seem to love it when the guys strike, but I guess in this case they didn't - to put it mildly.

So yes, WHEN THIS GUY GOES, THEY HATE IT.

This fight wasn't written up too much anywhere, but here are a couple of reports

So it is of little consequence whether you "buy it" or not.

It is a shame because the Japanese ran a beautiful sporting event with great rules and in a ring. As MMA grew, I think Pride might have bridged the gap between younger MMA fans and older boxing fans. My old man, who is a boxing purist, swore up and down about how awful MMA was until he saw Pride.

              exactly.

it was a BORING fight on there feet. They were missing all there shots and there was no actiont o describe.

this clown of a writer says that in boxing, the action would have been described as action packed. hahaha
