  • Larry Holmes: "Tommy Morrison is Full of Crap"

Former heavyweight champion Larry Holmes voiced some strong opinions about the recent comeback of Tommy "The Duke" Morrison. Morrison tested positive for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, more than ten-years ago. In the last few years, Morrison has claimed that he received a false-positive test result and is not, nor has he ever - had HIV. [details]

I agree with Holmes on this one. The one caveat with his opinion is that "...the disease he is carrying around called AIDS." Morrison has NOT got AIDS, but HIV which is the underlying cause of AIDS. If he did have AIDS, he wouldn't have the energy to walk around, let alone fight in the MMA.

Holmes shows his ignorance by saying Morrison has AIDS.

If these recent tests prove he hasbnt got HIV than he has every right to fight. Maybe its a bit suspect that he only fights on reservations, but until proven that Morrison has HIV, he should not make such bold accusations.

Sorry Larry "sherlock" Holmes, but innocent until proven guilty. Holmes uses the word "think" an awful lot in his summarising of a subject he seems so ignorant of, but its not unlike him to have the arrogance to presume he knows everyone else business better than themselves.

To be honest anyone who fights Morrison and doesn't seek conclusive evidence that his HIV is gone is a fool and i'm not saying they deserve everything they get but its up to them to assess the risk factor before they get in there, we're all grown ups here.

First of all, HIV is the virus, and AIDS is the disease. 2 different things. A person can carry the HIV virus, even transmit it, and not manifest the disease AIDS, especially if taking the newer anti-virals for HIV. There have been a few cases where HIV was apparently cured (perhaps Magic Johnson, for instance) and there are other people who don't contract the disease, even when exposed, and everything in between. It is not an either/or kind of thing, although the mortality rate is quite high.

My question is why did Morrison wait so long to determine whether or not he got a false positive the very first time. As the disease progresses, the virus becomes more numerous in the blood, not to mention other symptoms, like opportunistic infections and cancers. He should have determined 9 years ago whether he really had the disease or not, or 5 years ago, or something. Anyone would be an idiot to get in the ring and fight a guy with AIDS, or even referee a fight where body fluids (especially blood) containing HIV are flying around and landing on open cuts and abrasions.

Holmes is right. Anyway, Morrison can fight all he wants on Indian Reservations with low-ranking mixed martial artists, but he can't possibly have the skills to fight the big boys successfully. He'll just go out, get beaten up, and make boxing look ****** once again. If he wants to fight, he should play by the rules, just like every other fighter is forced to do.

I was shocked Holmes sorta praised him at the end. During the Rocky Pepeli fight Holmes constantly spouted racist stuff about whites then as well.

I remember when Larry Holmes fought Ray Mercer, whose previous fight was a brutal knock out of Tommy Morrison. At one point in the fight, Holmes looked into the camera, said, "I'm not Tommy Morrison," and then popped Mercer. I thought that was pretty funny.

Innocent until proven guilty is a pretty ****in ****** thing to say when youre talkin about HIV.

Im not exactly sure how it would be transmitted in the middle of a match...I thought the virus couldnt be passed on when it came in contact with air...but regardless, its not a big deal, Tommy should just get some OFFICIAL tests done to make sure everything is safe with him.

Im not sure why hes fighting at this point...hes way out of shape and getting on in years...but if he wants to that bad, he should just be cleared real quick before he fights again by the commisions, it cant be all that damn hard.
