Larry Donald vs. Alexander Povetkin on June 30, Barrett has cancelled

Monte Barrett has cancelled his June 30 fight with Alexander Povetkin, and will be replaced by Larry Donald. This is an equally interesting matchup, although Donald has been inactive and so has probably gone downhill a little, he is still a very difficult opponent.

Are you sure about this Canada, just yesterday you were saying that Povetkin might be fighting Danny Williams?

Anyways, I think that Donald is a much better opponent than Barrett because of his experience and superior boxing skills. Should be a great test for the young Povetkin....

Should still be a good test. Alexander Povetkin is a major up and coming talent in the division.

BostonGuy, it's official - Larry Donald will be fighting Povetkin on June 30, check *********.com.

Barrett cancelled on Saturday, Danny Williams was discussed as a possible replacement, but Donald has now agreed to it.

I just added a poll to this thread. What's interesting about this fight is that Povetkin has won most of his fights by early KO, and Donald is extremely difficult to knock out. Povetkin hasn't had to go into late rounds, what happens if he does in this one?

Larry Donald is one of several fighters who has been badly treated by Don King. After he lost to Valuev, King basically abandoned Donald rather than helping him get more fights. King has done the same to many boxers, such as Lyakhovich and Beck - when some of his fighters lose, he loses interest in them.

I picked Donald by decision but I'm pulling for Povetkin. I just think that Larry is a very good Boxer. Povetkin will have to ko him to win and only Vitali has been able to do it. Good luck!

Fair play to Povetkin, this is a tough test Donald is a good points fighter who is smart and knows his way around the ring.If Donald had been active i would of said its too much too soon for Povetkin style wise, but with the layoff i think Alex is a huge talent and will find a way to win.
It wouldnt shock me if Donald won via ud though.

Since Donald has had a long layoff, IMO it's in Povetkin's favor to pressure Larry early on and go for the KO...This is a very tough fight for such an inexerience prospect like Povetkin but it just shows how much he believes in himself. I wish Alexander all the luck...

Yes, I think the layoff will be a factor...otherwise, it would be an extremely difficult fight for Povetkin to take, unless he had a few more weeks to prepare with a sparring partner similar to Donald.
