If so, why?
If not, why not?
Personally, I can't name 10 better fighters out right now, and it sounds weird because I remember watching him fight as a prospect against Bazan, etc...since then, he's become a freight train, an absolute animal in the ring.
He has all the qualities that make a great champion and a legendary fighter. When was the last time you remember Cotto stop fighting for a round or two? When was the last time you remember him NOT crushing his opponent? Paulie survived because of pride and took a brutal beating. Ndou is just a freak of nature.
When was the last time you saw JUDAH, who many picked to win, take such a brutal beating? He has heart, but think about it. Think about the great fighters he's fought, and think about who has made him go to his knees without having hit him a split second earlier. Not Mayweather. Not Spinks. Not even Tszyu.
Tszyu caught him with a shot that, like the joke says "he was so knocked out he didnt even know he was knocked out". He stood up too fast, and his equilibrium wasn't there. Anyone gets caught with one of those. Judah simply got caught against Tszyu.
Not so with Cotto. Judah got up from his knockdowns KNOWING he had been knocked down. He knew he was mentally beaten, physically beaten, from the look on his face he just knew he had never faced a fighter who took all his confidence away like Cotto did. Seeing his craftiness and power shots have no effect on this pitbull and he just keeps coming at you and there's just nothing you can do but take a knee in the corner and take a breather.
In other words, Judah lost a FIGHT. He didn't get caught, he simply got outworked, outwilled, outmuscled, outfocused, outeverything by the better fighter tonight.
For all his defects, he has the intangibles that make it hard for me to personally bet against him. This guy is a well oiled machine for 12 rounds, there is no retreat in him, there is no spitting out his mouthpiece if he gets hurt, there is no hold on for dear life until your equilibrium is back (though it would be smarter), there's no picking my opponents, putting excuses for not wanting to fight so and so, there's only DEMOLISH WHOEVER IS IN FRONT OF ME AND LET MY PROMOTERS HANDLE THE OTHER BULL****.
The man is all business, from the time the fight is announced, to the time his opponent is on the canvas. He's a fighter.
