Wow what a night of fights.
Humberto Soto vs Bobby Pacquiao
Quite simply, Roach is damn good. I think though Soto did seem out of his normal rythm in trying too hard. It was undeniable bobby was much better than any other fight we have seen him in. He used the jab, he was active, he moved pretty well, he had a few manny P tricks in there which he used very well. And that hook was murderous!! For roach to take what I thought was a lost cause in Bobby and turn him into the fighter I saw tonight is incredible I give props to him and if Roach gets trainer of the year this year it should be for this act alone. Also Soto showed he has tremendous heart. He got rocked and he was firing back like nothing even though he was visibly reeling.
Miguel Cotto vs Zab Judah
I think this fight spoke for itself on behalf of Zab. I thought it was going to be an easy fight for Cotto and it was certainly not. However, this fight showed a huge flaw in Judah and probably the reason he has fallen short in most of his big fights. His mentality isnt right. Against Cotto he waited for Cotto to give him stuff all the time. Even when he hurt him. He never really tried doing things to make cotto make additional mistakes. He just capitalized on the mistakes cotto naturally did. And he waited so long that eventually Cotto changed and he had taken so much punishment waiting it was too late. Cotto and Zab both showed tons of heart.
Chavez Jr. vs Grover Wiley
This fight really only proved that chavez is actually progressing as a year ago I would have thought Grover would at least be a challenge. He wasnt. Not even close. However, Chavez Jr. showed immaturity and he better fix that quick. He needs to stick to the plan at all times because if he strays away from the plan like he did against wiley vs a fighter who can actually crack like Gatti its going to cost him big.
It was an awesome night of boxing except for the first fight but hey u cant have it all.
