  • Man...Cotto looks so slooooow in that Workout vid

Anyone else notice that? I'm not just talking about the heavybag work. When he's hitting the mitts, my god his hands look so slow compared to Judah on the HBO countdown. I know on fight night, things will even out, but just seeing the difference in speed in their mitt work is scary.

Believe it or not I think he does that on purpose. Come fight night he's a totally different Miguel than what you see in those workout vids. That's the way he looked before the Q fight and look at what Q said after the fight about his speed. You'll see on saturday night.

Haven't you learned to treat training videos as just sheer diehard fan entertainment? Just like weigh ins, they don't necessarily spell out the course of an actual fight...

There are two ways of using the handpads. SOme guys like Floyd Mayweather uses them in flashy choreographed combinations in which the trainer and the fighter both have to remember the sequence. Some guys like Cotto use them to work on accuracy at full power, and so they punch slower when they hit the pads. Once you get in the ring and you're trying to put power on your shots the speed evens up a little.

Yeah I know. Though also Zab didn't give a **** about that fight. A focused Zab with speed is deadly for anyone, although I still think Cotto got this.

I know, I was just mentioning it. I kept watching that countdown video and the speed struck me as soon as I watched it. No need to go crazy about it. I also don't take much outta sparring videos that I watch.

I agree cotto did look slow but did you check out the technique in his punches it was perfect. Also his shots were extremly clean and snappy.

Cotto does not like to show off in front of the camera like other fighter's do. He is the type of person that will only show what he is truely about inside the ring.
