Katsidis Addition Beefs Up Hopkins-Wright Undercard

    per *********:

    Katsidis returns July 21!
After having an HBO fight against Joan Guzman fall through, WBO interim light champion Michael Katsidis (22-0, 20 KOs) will now return July 21. "Michael will fight and defend his title July 21st at Mandalay Bay Casino Las Vegas on the undercard of Bernard Hopkins vs Winky Wright with Michael's opponent to be anounced before the week is out," said Katsidis' manager/trainer Brendon Smith. Smith also announced that Katsidis and WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Diaz have agreed on one more fight each before colliding in their WBO-mandated showdown. Katsidis has been doing light training in Los Angeles since the cancellation of the Guzman fight.

Hopefully he will fight someone decent and if so, all the sudden this PPV looks solid. The Larios-Linares addition was huge, and with Ishe Smith out of GBP, we won't have to suffer through Smith-Ouma, and instead we get Katsidis! If it were Guzman-Katsidis fighting July 21, all the sudden this would be one of the best PPVs of the year, imagine that. But it's not, so let's hope they get someone with a pulse in there with Katsidis.

Here are some predicted possible opponents:

Hector Velazquez, Yuri Romanov, Rolando Reyes.

I would love to see him in there with Kid Diamond, but he's Top Rank, so forget it.

They need to make this undercard pretty good because the main event has the possibility of being a bore. I like Nard and Winky, but like they always say style's makes fights and both styles could produce a very technical, high speed chess type of fight, but not one that's gonna have the fans standing up after every round.

No question. But at least GBP sees that and is taking steps to make the undercard a solid one.

Hopkins and Winky are my two favorite active fighters, but even I am not drooling in anticipation of this fight. That will probably change around mid-July, though.

Katsidis would be an excellent addition to ANY card. This guy is one of the most exciting fighters in the sport right now. Aggression, power in both fists and a suspect chin. What more can you want!
