    A combination of...

    1.) Age
2.) Loss of focus and full motivation (especially against Johnson)
3.) Inappropriate weight loss against Tarver the first time, which cause the fight to be as close as it was. If Roy was in top condition then, nobody would have talked about Tarver again.

I'm confident it was Antonio Taver that caused his downfall..

For those who have seen Antonio calling Roy out at the Ruiz press conference, Roy speaking with Jim Lampley before Mayweather vs. Ndou, and Tarver I, II, and III - you can see where I'm headed with this..

Antonio Tarver got in his head (probably a very long time ago), made his worst nightmares a reality, and shattered Roy's self image and ego.

For Shane Molsey it was Vernon Forrest, for Pep it was Saddler.. ect.

In Roy's case, once that confidence was gone the whole thing collapsed.

      He was broken.

It wasn't age, it wasn't the drugs - but those things didn't help.

If you look @ RJJ during Ruiz, and him 3 months later against Tarver you'll see why. I know about steroids and theres no steroid...even HGH that has that decline rate.

He took muscle off too quick. I've brought this up in the forums here before. ****s w/your nervous system.

I dont buy any of this "getting into heads" malarky. Tarver is just a loud mouth and RJJ accomadated. He had no reason to fight him twice.

Taking off the weight/muscle so quick. Same thing happened with Tarver. I dont even like Tarver, but you cant lose that much weight and be the same.

It was a combination of roids, and the fact Tarver had figured out Roy's style. The rooster ambush style of fighting doesn't work against the type of pressure Tarver applied.

There is no proof that Jones was a career PED user. The age and weight are sole reason why he lost it. He was never in tip top condition ever again.

Roy was never tied to BALCO. The only boxer that i know of that was ******** in the BALCO scandal was Mosley.

Never tested positive for actual anabolic steroids either.

Roy's hard fall was a combination of the weight loss, age, deterioration of reflexes, shot legs, and a refusal to adjust his unorthodox style with fighting at an advanced age. His style of fight was just not made for a boxer in his mid-30's. And success of said style was interdependent on having out of this world speed, agility, reflexes and power working in perpetuity with eachother. Once that went, so did Roy.

I guess Roy said that it might have been medicine he was taking or an over the counter supplement called ripple fuel. I don't know...Thats just what I've read.
Ripped Fuel. I used to take that before work outs and just for energy in general. It was when ephedra was everywhere (711, grocery stores, etc). In those days ephedra was the hot thing for energy - before there was energy drinks and 5 hour energy drinks things like Ripped Fuel were all the rage. Not a steroid, but it's a banned substance.

Dumb statement. People always say that roids affects speed and that's not true at all if your goals aren't to get huge. Heavy weights and a high calorie surplus get you big. If you take certain drugs and your goal is to increase speed that will happen. Steroids will help you train harder and recover much faster. There are a few that add a lot of water weight like deca but obviously that's not what a boxer would take. Obviously every top level sprinter takes drugs and they are all faster for it as well as guys like lance, Gamboa, etc. steroid effects are determined by goals not some myth that they make you big and slow.

add to that the idea that steroid use would negatively affect his defining quality ie: speed, as it did for shane and you have to say it was the musle loss, at such an advanced age for an athlete, that led to his decline.

he stayed at 200lb for too long waiting for a tyson or holyfeild fight, then sweat it off in a month to fight tarver.

he should have fought for a title at cruser, he wouldnt have had to have lost to much weight and could easly bulked up or slimed down for the best fight at
                      heavy or ltheavy.

                      oh well its history now.
