more incentive to win. more motivation to prove the odds and critics wrong.
Why do FIGHTERS love being the UNDERDOG so much????

1. Proves everyone wrong who says you couldn't do it(that's always satisfying)
2. More marketable, People love underdogs(hence Rocky). Look at Pavlik, one win where he was the underdog in most people's minds, and now everyone's raving about him.Comment

The underdog has a psychological advantage over his oponent. Because he's not expected to win, it takes at least some of the pressure off. Consequently, he's able to fight more relaxed and unleash punches with reckless abandon.
The favorite often enters the ring with the psychological "baggage" of having to live up to expectations and prove himself. He can be wound so tightly they can barely get off a punch and fight with too much caution.Comment
