Kessler is not worth $5.5 million

Negotiations for Joe Calzaghe's next fight continue, and this week WBA/WBC super-middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler's promoter Mogens Palle asked for $5.5million for his man to come to the UK.

Unfortunately the figures don't add up from my end, but I'm determined to get the fight on so I faxed Palle and said Joe would go to Denmark for the same amount.

    Strangely, I've heard nothing since.
Calzaghe accepts the offer to fight in Denmark, so Palle now wants it to take place in UK. As quite rightly predicted, Palle was caught bluffing, as he did not expect Calzaghe to come to Denmark, so was just saying $5 million dollars to lure Warren to match the offer for Kessler.

Kessler's worth that much to Calzaghe right now. Calzaghe's in a bad spot at the negotiating table. If Taylor plays his other cards Joe HAS to fight Kessler at whatever cost. Kessler on the other hand has time on his side. He can afford to fight a prospect or two whereas Calzaghe cannot waste his September date.

Joke has wasted his entire career. What's one more fight against the Bika's and Manfredo's of the world?

Well fine if you want to harp on that. (Really if you study most of the guys he faced you'll see they were all better than Bika and Manfredo).

What are his top 5 wins this century?

Calzaghe beat some decent contenders and highly ranked 168 lb. fighters, like Mitchell and Brewer, for example, but Kessler would be the highest regarded 168 lb. fighter he has faced. Kessler is relatively new on the scene but has already defeated 2 guys who were world titlists at the time (more than Calzaghe has in his whole career). The fight is a must for Calzaghe's all-time standing and legacy.

You know as well as I do. Mitchell, Sheika, etc. were good fighters, but that's history. Let's argue right now. Joe Calzaghe is a near guaranteed loss for any of the available opponents. I know you know this as well. He's gotta just give in at the negotiating table, but he's got the chump Warren ****ing his career up. Joe's the victim of bad promotion, that doesn't make hima "Joke" and you know it. You know enough boxing I imagine to realize Taylor and Kessler would be slapped to death. A few stubborn pricks will deny this in Taylor's case, but most people know better. It's not worth enough for these guys to fight Joe. They can get around it if the money's not great.

I think Calzaghe beats everyone at 160 and 168. Now he just has to go out there and prove it. Until that point, I consider him a joke. Yeah, Frank Warren is ****ing up his career. Well, that's his choice for a promoter. He must feel he's doing a good job if he hasn't felt the need to replace him...

Yeah Joe must be happy enough with his promotor or he'd have got another by now. He needs to fight big names instead of Warren just talking about it.

If those are the best wins in his career, he has issues.
And older Eubank, and close, controversial decision with Robin Reid where a rematch was ignored and a decision win over Jeff Lacy, a touted prospect whos got excellent power, but poor skills and defense.
