Ray Mancini: "Taylor, An Easy Fight For Pavlik"

The most famous fighter in Youngstown history, hall-of-famer Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini, does not think WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor will fight Kelly Pavlik, who is arguably the best fighter to come out of Youngstown, Ohio since Mancini himself. [details]

Look, I'm a huge Pavlik fan, and Taylor was not exactly dominant in his last fight but lets be real, it's not going to be an "easy" fight for Pavlik. In fact, style wise you could make an argument that it is actually a bad match-up for Pavlik should the fight happen.

Not trying to pick at you but style wise. Taylor usually fights the style his opponent does. Really Taylor has no imprint of a style in a fight. Although he packs a solid punch. I'm thinking that Taylor will do well against Pavlik becuase Pavlik will bring the fight to him. So Taylor will have to fight back. But I like Pavlik I think he has much better technique than Taylor and uses his jab.

I somewhat agree with this. I am not sold on Pavlik yet, because I always thought that Miranda was grossly overrated. I dont think Pavlik would win PERIOD, much less EASILY. To me Pavlik looks off balance and sloppy. If Taylor just uses his goddamn jab and listens to Steward that should be enough.

Taylor aint all that either. Pavlik vs Taylor would look similar to Wright vs Taylor the only difference is that Pavlik hits harder than Wright. I'd say Pavlik by KO in 9 or 10.

No problem, I don't mind someone disagreeing with me at all. Especially since you obviously know your boxing. But although I too like Pavlik's style better I still think Taylor's style is going to give him problems.

Maybe I am wrong but I think Taylors style has been fairly distict in his last few fights. Ever since Taylor won the title he has become a "stick and move" type of fighter, relying on hand speed and scoring points. I think that style is will be tough for Pavlik. Maybe I have forgotten about a particular match but I don’t remember him ever bringing to fight to anyone since winning the title.

Like I said, I am a fan of Pavlik's but I just don't agree with all the people that see this as an "easy" fight for him. Good point on Pavlik's jab by the way, I think a lot of people miss that aspect of his repertoire.

You dont think Taylor looks off balance and sloppy? I think Pavlik maybe gets hit a little too much but his balance is good and his punches are technically sharp.

Yeah because Pavlik has a great defense like Wright.
