    Pavlik Shines on Taylor's Night

As expected by most, Jermain Taylor won a twelve-round split decision over Cory Spinks retaining his WBC & WBO Middleweight Titles Saturday night. The snoozer was broadcast live on HBO as the Main Event from the Fed-Ex Forum in Memphis, Tennessee. [details]

Excellent article!!!!! I completely agree with you in saying that Taylor and mayweather are what is wrong with boxing caring only about money and screwing the fans. I will never and have never paid for a maywether or Taylor fight because i know you will never get your money worth. The only reason I bought "Ther Worls Awaits" is because Oscar was featured. Other than that i will never purchase one of there fights. It seems they are more interested in protecting there titiles than defending them, and the only thing they care about is the money.

I couldn't agree with you any more than with what you have said. The problem with boxing today is it takes too long for the best fighters in each weight class to fight one another. How on earth can Taylor who has not looked good in his last five fights, demand a huge payday, when he looks like a paper champion. We also have to blame the networks, especailly HBO, because they hand pick who they want to showcase (Taylor, Mayweather, Calzaghe) and protect them with safe opponents. If Taylor can't dominate a welterweight like Spinks, what would he do against Pavlik, or Miranda. When fighters only want to fight for the biggest paydays, it does not guarantee great fights. Mayweather is a prime example, of a fighter who wants big checks, but refuses to fight the best in his class. (Cotto, Mosley, Margarito, Williams). When I watched boxing as a kid, the best fought the best because the only way to produce a big payday, was to fight the best opponent available. Today, they want us consumers to order the ppv event against lesser opponents. Boxing must get back to basics, the best vs the best, starting with Taylor vs. Pavlik, Mayweather vs. Cotto, Pacqauio vs.Marquez(either one) or Calzaghe vs. Kessler.

yeah, everything is about the money these days. it wouldn't surprise me if taylor dropped the belts not to fight pavlik. i'm not impressed by his sloppy SD win over a running cory spinks, yeah, i hate jermain taylor but come on, he can't even knock out a welterweight these days
