    Fighting Off The Ropes?

What are you guys opinions of this? Im asking because in nearly every fight now, the commentators kind of rip guys for being on the ropes or they assume things. They always say that this or that guy needs to get off the ropes or when exchanges happened they automatically give the credit to fighter B just because fighter A is on the ropes.

I have never fought in a boxing ring but I personally love to fight with my back against stuff. My style is a crouching style like Tyson's & Fraziers. Im a power puncher with good hand speed. I have no problem with being up against stuff and alot of times will actually prefer it. I think it gives the opponent incentive to come close to you and you can land your best shots.

Everytime Floyd goes against the ropes, the commentatos say that this is not where Floyd wants to be and they automatically assume his opponent is winning in that instance. I completely dissagree. Most of the time Floyd allows himself to go to the ropes but he uses it as more in a defensive manner. In that instance he wants his opponent to hit him in an attempt to block his shots & sap his energy. Floyd doesnt just want to stay in the middle of the ring all fight long.

Clottey is another guy. He loves to get on the ropes and throw combos. The ropes seem to give guys like him leverge. They cover up, bounce off the ropes, and then spring forward with blistering shots. I think you can land some of your best shots off the ropes. They always said Hopkins needed to stay off the ropes against Tito but thats when Hopkins really started punishing him.

On a side not, I thought Merchant was a idiot when he said that the ref couldve counted it a knock down early in the Pavlik fight when Miranda fell against the ropes. You could clearly see that Miranda fell back because he knew the ropes were there. Fighters do that all the time. The ref could clearly see that.

At least when a fighter is against the ropes you know that nobody is running.

You know, I think it really depends. Good fighters can use the ropes effectively. I think the commentators rip guys who back up like that, though, because the judges can easily see the other guy as pressing the action, being aggressive and backing his opponent into the ropes. If you're a good fighter, stylish, and can fight off the ropes and still look dominant- fine. Many fighters, though, get backed into the ropes and then let the opponent throw the punches and come forward. Despite the reason this can look bad to some fans, judges and commentators because it looks like you're getting bullied. A perfect example of this was when Floyd got back against the ropes against Oscar and, though blocking most of the punches, was seen as letting De la Hoya be the aggressor.

floyd doesnt use the ropes like ali does. he'd probbly stay a few seconds there then run. ali's the best in doing this. man i love how he'd ripped combos to foreman off the ropes.

          It depends on the fighter.

Ali and Mayweather are good examples of fighters who can fight off the ropes.

          Miranda needs to stay off.

Miranda doesnt need to stay off the ropes. He just needs to stay off of them against Pavlik. Pavlik was just a monster with size and a big punch. Miranda probally landed his best punches when he was on the ropes. Pavlik was just killing him at the same time. If he was figthing someone else then Miranda probally wouldve looked awesome off the ropes

someone like Floyd, who is an extremely effective dancing circles around an opponent, and with quick reflexes..just doesn't look too good 'on the ropes', giving the impression he's in trouble. Michael Carbajal was like that too. When you saw him on the ropes..it was a clear indication he was wearing out. Some folks use the ropes to lure thier opponent "IN".
