sometimes(like today) I wish Cory would just go away. I mean yeah he's had titles but David Reid was more exciting getting his ass kicked than Cory is winning. Cory should move back down to 154, get ktfo by Simms and go work at Burger Chef or whatever. I don't hate him, just his style. And that will never put butts in seats. I don't care if he outboxes Hopkins for the LHW title, he is blah

If I was the brass at HBO I would blacklist Corey Spinks from my network.

Im not joking, he would never fight on my airwave again.

Your thoughts and feelings are exactly why no one on HBO wanted to talk about the competitiveness of the fight, instead focusing on Taylor's disappointing performance and Steward's exhortation of him. Imagine Spinks as the middleweight champion, and then realize why even if he deserved to win (which more than a couple of boxing writers think he did), it was NEVER going to happen.

Remember how Forrest-Quartey was referred to by some as an HBO-created controversy? I think Taylor-Spinks is an HBO-created non-controversy.

I thought the two fights WERE comparable, though obviously Spinks did a far worse job compared to floyd.

Why it was Taylor who just standing their staring at Spinks while he jabbed him to death...

Taylor says if you want to win the championship fight the champion dont run...WHAT IN THE **** was Taylor doing? Just standing their looking in awe...Taylor is half to blame because Spinks was their for the pickings like a cherry but instead he just stood their looking at Spinks for 80% of the fight...Taylor wasnt the busy fighter...

See Wlad Klitchko vs. Ray Mercer if you want to see a fighter getting jabbed to death...Spinks, his fists, and the word death just dont work.

I understand that Taylor did very little, Im not praising Taylor either Im just thru (HBO is too) with Spinks who is just far too interested in petting his way to victory.

Cory problably could have landed at a higher percentage, but his game plan was stay outside and get close enough to hit taylors gloves, but not any closer.

                      Looking back on the fight:

Despite the low connect percentage, his total punches landed were credited to within 20 punches of Taylor's, and he out threw Jermaine by over 100 punches. This is often not the case with low connect pct stats from the loser. The punches landed stat is often way under the radar as well.

Spinks also had Jermaine out of it mentally, which made it even worse for Taylor.

I also agree with the fact that it was on Jermaine to figure out how to neutralize Cory's offense, and not on Cory to engage since it wasn't his strength (however, I'd much rather size mismatch fights with an elusive, feather fisted small guy weren't made). Spinks was there to figure out, but Taylor wasn't listening to his corner or using any kind of individual thought while in the ring (i.e. if you can't get the head, get the body, and if you find something that works... integrate it more in the offense (the straight right)). The combination of Spinks being allowed to fight his fight to a T, and Taylor being lost and later performing as if he were beaten (increasing inactivity) is what causes some folks to give it to Cory. Casually, (and let me put the emphasis on looking at this casually and not as a scorekeeper) it looks like Spinks won in sad fashion when you take in the entirety of the fight's ambience in the initial viewing.
                      nice take...i agree.

it's interesting how jermain took the bull by the horns (somewhat) in the ouma fight and just let punches fly to tame ouma's offense when he'd engage. jermain also moved his hands a lot more against wright...another relatively stationary target.

funny how this wasn't true for the most part against hopkins and spinks, two movers. maybe jermain really doesn't know what to do when his man doesn't stand right in front of him.
