    Four steps to save boxing

Boxing doesn't need to be saved for the hard-core fans, but if it wants to attract more viewers in order to pay the fighters the rediculous amounts they demand per fight, it will need to undergo some changes to become more popular.

    Here are my suggestions:

    1. Smaller gloves! Yes, safety is important but you can't have a really popular sport when the fighters are wearing pillows on their fists. People want to see KOs!

    2. Less alphabet orgs. People would be much more inclined to tune in if there weren't so many "champions" diluting it down. One national/international commission that ranks all fighters and determins mandatories.

    3. More fights per year. Fighters now fight twice a year and call it good. That's horse****! Champions should have to defend their titles (one mandatory, one optional fight) AT LEAST once every three months, with exceptions for injuries.

    4. Clear up decisions. Bad decisions kill boxing. Judges should be ranked by the new national/international organization and judges who cannot defend why they chose one fighter in a particular round they scored should be suspended for one year.

    Any more suggestions?

i think that bad decisions are obviously more common in a 12 rounder than a 15 rounder.

if theyre gonna keep fighting with the smaller gloves maybe they should go back to 15 rounds.... look how many of the most dramatic moments in boxing history have taken place in rounds 13-15

      that's foolish,

i don't know if youre a fighter, but smaller gloves would be terrible. guys like arturro gatti would get killed. And a fight every three month is a bit short, when you consider that for a big fight they must train already 6 weeks.

The problem with all of these how to save boxing threads is how do you implement any of these.

          1. Smaller gloves could be implemented but they're not going to. They just made them larger recently.
          2. No way to implement it
          3. I don't think giving sanctioning organizations ordering more fights would help any
          4. Could be done and is done to some extent. But people would still be unsatisfied.

Also, smaller gloves don't mean more KOs. It means more hand breakage and deteration. You can go full bore with them. They are, on the other hand, great for teaching people controled accurate strikes.

They need to stop paying fighters so much so they have to fight more to get their pay and advertise and showcase good fights on regular cable channels. NFL has the Super Bowl, Soccer has the World Cup etc. They need to put the best in brackets and MAKE them fight one another till they get to the top and only have on champion per weight class... Never will happen though.

I only agree with 2 and 4. Number 1 it would be more interesting to see more boxers become brain-dead vegetables or die and 3 is just unrealistic. The game has changed it takes boxers longer to prepare and sign cotracts. Fighters now arent't like the fighters of the past when yoou could fight 3 fights in 3 weeks. 2 and 4 are good though. You're at 50% qaulity. Not bad.

ja so 6 weeks to train and 6 weeks to sit on their ass doing nothing. I wish I had a job where I could work 50% of the time and get paid millions of $. And of course if fighters stayed in shape instead of getting fat like ricky hatton in between fights then their training time would be significantly less as well.

as for arturo gatti, he would have to learn defence, or yes he would take punishment. Thats boxing.
