A Trainer's Frustration: Dealing with a fighter who doesnt LISTEN!

MANNY STEWARD almost had a damn heart attack in there! taylor is cold why didnt he listen to steward? He was giving the old man a hard time.

I hope steward leaves taylor seriously and just focuses on andy lee, kermit cintron, wlad and those other guys...Taylor has failed to listen to manny countless times! in taylors last fight with ouma manny told him to keep throwing the upper cut and when taylor threw it, it was landing then he stopped and didnt throw any more.

Man I was pissed at taylor too I was like push sphinks away and unload why you only throwing 1 punch? wtf you gotta throw some combos.

I feel bad for Taylor he will never go down in middleweight history as a great middleweight champion instead he will go down as the most middleweight champ who squeaked on by in controversial decisions.

Now I see why Roach likes Pacquiao so much the kid listens.

If you think it's frustrating to watch, imagine being in the corner and seeing it firsthand. It's weird, some guys will listen to and follow detailed instructions in the gym, and then just ignore basic instructions in a fight.

True but usually they tense up when they face hard bombers who hit hard...and taylor was fighting some guys who dont hit hard like ouma, winky, miranda...I think jt is scared to get hit, emmanuel was right he could of just walked through spinks if he had a higher work rate spinks clearly wasnt even hitting hard.

ya thats why teddy atlas said he didnt wanna coach a fighter any more.

remember how hard he had to get moorer to dig deep? dude almost popped a blood vessel.

I can understand if a fighter has 1 or 2 off nights where they dont listen at all...but Jermain taylor is almost all his fights from hopkins, to sphinks he never really followed emmanuel! and i think now was the turning point manny had enough and as you could see he was pissed even exposing taylor infront of national tv saying i told you we should of took the miranda fight.

      lol

I agree. They have to pay these trainers, and then they totally ignore them between rounds. It's crazy. Hell, when Roach told DLH to keep working the jab, he actually abandoned it!

thats why i like teddy atlas, if his fighter doesn't listen teddy takes the stool and sits on it in the corner between rounds saying the fighter doesn't deserve it, teddy is brutal on his fighters and he usually gets them to listen, and if they don't teddy puts it all on them and makes them feel like ****. and i think any trainer ought to do the same, if your fighter isnt listening, i'd say **** it you're on your own, you wont listen all you are right now to me is a pay check since that is how you're taking this fight, that is how i take being in your corner!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if that doesn't get them to listen, throw them in the gutter and go get another!

Taylor didn't listen cuz he didn't wanna look bad. I think that's the clear reason. The VERY few times he lunged in he got tied up or missed. He was trying not to look bad. He should have been listening to his corner though. He's lucky he just did enough to win the fight.
