    Serguei Lyakhovich?

What is he doing with his career now? He has talent and grit, but he seems to lack focus. The same story we've seen again and again. You know I never fully lose hope in these kind of guys though, so I'll continue to root for Lyakhovich, even though he completely blew it against Briggs when he looked past him in the preparations for their fight. Compare Sergei in that fight to Brewster, who was a hardier and stronger fight. It's obvious he took Brewster very seriously and then completely overlooked Briggs to me. His movements and the way he carried himself seemed off from the beginning vs. Briggs. He was under prepared and it clearly effected his confidence (along with Shannon's power).

So what's the news concerning his career?

I havent heard anything about him. He dropped the ball big time against Briggs. I heard rumors of him fighting Toney a couple months back.

That would be a good fight. Both of them need to get back into the mix ASAP.

The problem with talented fighters like Liahovich is the long layoffs between fights. I mean how can you be a fan of Serguei's when he only seems to fight once per year. Surely, he could have got back into the ring for a tune-up to at least keep the fans alittle happy.

He hasn't been fighting frequently enough the last few years to stay in top form. His once-excellent potential is going to waste.

I dont think he over looked briggs. I think he just choked. any boxer will tell you there's a lot more pressure in defending your belt for the first time as opposed to fighting for a belt. anyway,,,,I was never too high on serge. he showed his vulnerability against mo harris. his instinct is always to go with his back to the ropes when he's stunned by a punch which is the kiss of death. he also throws that ****** little right lead to the body which leaves him extremely vulnerable to counters. I think brewster happened to take him too lightly and blew up in weight way too high between krasniqui and the serg fight and couldnt get it down enough to be most effective. he still came within a hair of stopping serge. serge does have some ability and seems like a descent guy but I just dont think that highly of him as a top fighter. just my opinion

Also keep in mind that Brewster reinjured his eye in that fight, I think in the first round.

yea,,,but I dont really buy the eye excuse. he wasnt blinking or showing any ill affects from it,,,plus it was a punch that caused it. anyway,,,,I think brew would have finished him if he were in better shape and had more respect for serge. he was sluggish that night

I think the eye injury may explain why Lyakhovich was able to get away with throwing the right lead to the body repeatedly.
