history of Calzaghe vs. Lacy predictions from this site

You're right, Lennox Lewis was eventually accepted and highly regarded by North American boxing fans.
I didn't want to bring this up, but it's only white British fighters like Hatton and Calzaghe that are believed to be inferior by Americans. I think it's because white boxers in North America have done rather poorly since the 1950's. Because of being disappointed so many times in the "great white hopes" boxing fans here tend to be very skeptical about white boxers everywhere. But the fact is that white boxers in Britain and the rest of Europe are just as good as Black boxers, it's only here in North America that white boxers generally seem to be less capable. I don't know why this is so, but I believe it has really nothing to do with race, but other factors like desire to succeed and coming from tough neighborhoods has something to do with it.Last edited by Steelhammer86; 05-19-2007, 01:27 PM.Comment

Exactly. That's why he wasn't really regarded as a top fighter in the U.S (same reason a lot of American fans don't regard Calzaghe as a great). But people did hype Lacy's skills and believed he was up and coming.
I'm pretty sure everyone knows Joe Calzaghe is a good fighter... it's just that we've yet to see him truly challenged by a seasoned fighter. But that's gonna end in the near future, so there will be no excuses for either side of this little debate when the time comes.Comment

JD 1986, is this the anti british "racism" you claim to be seeing on this forum?
Or is it the case that several british posters continuously make inflamatory remarks towards americans and others?Comment

I agree with you this time. Sometimes it does go the other way - a post like the one you showed is evidence of that.Last edited by Steelhammer86; 05-19-2007, 02:54 PM.Comment
