WBC lightweight champion David Diaz will defend his title against three-time world champion Erik Morales on a August 4 pay-per-view event at the Allstate Arena in Chicago. The 30-year-old Diaz (32-1-1, 17 KOs) is a Chicago native and 1996 U.S. Olympian who scored a come-from-behind tenth round KO over Jose Armando Santa Cruz to claim the WBC interim belt in August 2006. He was later bumped up to full champion when Joel Casamayor was stripped. It is his first defense. Morales (48-5, 34 KOs) is going for a world title in his fourth weight division. According to the Chicago Tribune, other bouts on the card will include WBO 140lb titlist Ricardo Torres against mandatory challenger Kendall Holt, plus Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and local hero Donovan George in separate bouts.
