    WHY do this?

Note: A local reporter emailed me today asking what I thought about the fact that the Tarver-Muriqui, Dawson-?? fight is scheduled for Hartford the same night Cotto-Judah is being contested in NYC.

Ice, Why have it the same night Z. Judah is fighting in NYC. Do you think this will hurt attendance, overall interest? What bout are you going to and why? I'm going to talk to principles involved Tuesday at the press conference, but how does something like this happen. Wouldn't they want to avoid a conflict of dates?

Well put it this way. Me? I'm going to Cotto-Judah that night. Many people from around here in the boxing gam are. People pay for what they want to see in boxing and that's a fight AND an event and the NYC fight has much more intrigue, it IS an event. Two of the biggest stars going against each other one day before one of them (Cotto) is supposed to appear in the Puerto Rican Day parade in the same city where that fight is being held. A lot is on the line there. The Hartford show has two good names but it is a showcase for each guy (Tarver and Chad) in separate bouts while the NYC fight is a showcase for the sport itself. If that fight wasn't going on in NYC then I would definitely be at the Hartford show to see Chad, a kid I once trained and have known since he was 11, but when you pit the two shows against each other and factor in the time of year, the city its being contested in and the quality of the main event then I have no choice but to go to New York that night.

Because a lot of people will not pay 50 bucks to watch Cotto take on Judah.

If they want to watch Cotto-Judah they will watch it on TV instead of missing it and going to see Tarver's fight.

This fight is not PPV material. Judah was ridiculed by Baldomir, played with by Mayweather one night on ESPN gets him in a PPV card with Cotto.

Thats why many people don't watch boxing, almost every good matchup is on PPV.

Tarver vs Murqui on ABC primetime would have been ideal...But the much better fight is happening in NYC. Is the Tarver bought even being broadcasted if not than it shouldnt have an effect on anything except for live attendance at the gate which I doubt will have a big impact on either card IMO.
