Singwangcha new WBA lightweight champion

The fight was ruled a majority draw. One scorecard had Singwancha winning 117-111.
I had Singwancha winning comfortably at 116-112 and the Spanish speaking commentators on Telefutura had Singwancha winning 117-111.
The fight was held in Puerto Rico, so that explains why the big win for the Thai fighter was seen as a draw by two of the three judges. Cotto started the fight off strong and I had him winning the first four rounds, but by round 5 Singwancha seemed to take over the fight. The hot and humid weather may have affected Cotto's stamina, however, Singwancha did land some body shots early on that may have had more of an impact on Cotto than the weather.
The highlight of the fight came when J. Cotto threw an elbow at his trainer Evangelista Cotto in between rounds 9 and 10. Miguel Cotto tried to come in to calm down his uncle, bu this uncle wouldn't have any of it. Finally, by the end of the 10th round Evangelista agreed to stay away from J. Cotto's corner and Miguel Diaz took over.
The funniest part of the fight came when the announcer announced the decision as a draw. Singwancha and his corner (which obviously do not speak or understand English) began to celebrate. I said to myself, "what are they celebrating, Singwancha was just flat out robbed!"
All in all, it had more excitement and drama than the fight many of us paid $54.95 to watch last Saturday.Comment
