For all of you so called boxing historians and fans of the sport, I would like to know what you would think of these guys if they were fighting today? I bet we would rip them apart for there style of fighting and wouldnt appreciate nothing they did. I bet we would look at Ali as nothing more then a slightly better Byrd. I bet Sweet Pea would be undefeated but all anyone would talk about was how boring he is. I bet Pep woud be dominant but all they would talk about is how he couldnt sell tickets because he's a defensive fighter. They would all be called tappers and runners. Again, I could accept this from the casual fan but its mind boggling to me how our die hard fans and own boxing media can rip guys who fight like this isntead of appreciating the art of the sweet science
How Would Guys Like Ali, Sweet Pea, & Pep Be Seen Today?

What made Ali popular(in the long term) was his fight for the black people and the resistance to the draft. He could not do that nowadays. Also, the heavyweight scene is full of Eastern European, so the interest in America is not as big as it was in the 60 and 70. Maybe Ali would be a superstar in Germany after defeating Klitschko
You're right about Willie Pep, people would complain about him. Complaining seems like a national sport these days. Fighters like him and Robinson could not fight as often as they did back then, so their reccord would suffer from it. -
Sweet Pea was hated in his time because of his style... It wasn't until after he retired that more people started giving him props so not much would change on that part. For all of you so called boxing historians and fans of the sport, I would like to know what you would think of these guys if they were fighting today? I love how ppl think its wrong to hate guys like floyd and sweat pea for their boring styles, and in floyds case lack of aggresson, but its perfectly fine to bash John Ruiz, even though all three used apparently legal styles to win.Comment

Oh, thats a great comparison? Floyd & Sweet Pea vs Ruiz? Theyre all really the same caliber, huh? Ruiz grabs & holds. Theres a difference. No one wants to see that. People rip Hatton now for that. Thats not any part of boing. I could see you holding to prevent a KO but doing it all fight long as a strategy is ******. If you want to do that then you can go to the UFC. He also has no technique at allComment
