Alexander Povetkin (11-0, 9 KOs) is determined to further enhance his reputation as one of the hottest heavyweight prospects with a special boxing doubleheader. The former world amateur champion, who also won the gold medal at the 2004 Olympics, will take on Patrice L´Heureux (20-3, 12 KOs) in Bamberg on May 26 before coming face-to-face with Monte Barrett (31-5, 17 KOs) just one month later. The former opponent of Nikolai Valuev has been lined up for a fight in Moscow in June which will spell Povetkin´s biggest test to date. Undefeated in 11 fights (9 KOs), the 27-year-old has set the bar high. "After winning everything as an amateur, I am eager to be successful as a professional fighter, too," he stated. "I am keen to be a world champion one day." [details]

Povetkin
Monte Barrett is a solid journeyman and a former contender, so he's the perfect step up for Alexander Povetkin right now. Depending how well he does against Monte, we'll know if he ready to take the next step up and fight serious contenders. I believe he'll be ready for a title shot sometime in 2008. -
yea,,,this will answer some questions about his power. barret hasnt been an easy guy to stop. only wlad and valuev have done that. it wont answer questions on his chin however,,,as barret has little in the way of powerMonte Barrett is a solid journeyman and a former contender, so he's the perfect step up for Alexander Povetkin right now. Depending how well he does against Monte, we'll know if he ready to take the next step up and fight serious contenders. I believe he'll be ready for a title shot sometime in 2008.Comment

Of all the hw prospects now, you gotta love a guy who's had only 11 pro fights and is on the verge of stepping up his level of competition to fight someone like Monte Barrett! The guy has balls! The thing I love about Povetkin is that he goes into fights with one intention: to knock his opponent out. For these reasons, Povetkin will gain popularity because he takes risks and has a very entertaining brawling style. Look for good things to come with this guy..Comment
