  • Question...if Calzaghe,Hatton are so good...

And boxing is dead in the USA...

How many pay-per view cards have either one headlined???

Serious question...have they headlined PPV cards in England?

Hatton has on his past 3 maybe 4 fights.

Why the big onus on having PPV fights? I dunno about the rest of you guys, but having to pay to see these guys fight pisses me off. Might mean that they arent as 'popular' on a world-wide scale, but it doesnt say anything about how 'good' they are or arent.

Same as how I think that Joe Calzaghe selling out 35,000 tickets is more impressive than PBF & DLH selling less tickets for a ridiculous amount more money just because the average ticket was going for many thousand dollars.

Calzaghe and Hatton are not big names in England at all.

Hatton's last five fights have been PPV in Britain and have only had four-figure buys.

Calzaghe has been on PPV twice - against Eubank and Reid.

The Eubank one was actually the second biggest PPV buys outside America (behind Bruno-Tyson II in Britain - the first-ever PPV fight in Britain), six-figures in Britain, the original card was Naseem Hamed main event with Collins-Calzaghe chief support and a decent undercard but then Collins pulled out with two weeks to go and Eubank stepped in, and Eubank went on Parkinson the week before and informed everyone he was boxing again which boosted PPV sales and caused Eubank's fight (with Calzaghe) to be moved to the main event (much to Naz's annoyance!).

Nobody knows (apart from Sky and Sports Network) the numbers for the Calzaghe-Reid, Woodhall card.... so you can bet they were embarassing.

15,000 tickets were sold to residents of Bolton, and there was a 15-fight undercard.

That's ridiculous. If they had chosen a bigger venue, DLH-Mayweather could have double or tripled the attendance. Buying a PPV is essentially like a buying a ticket for the fight...

                  I dont care mate.

I consider lots of tickets sold for a boxing event more impressive than lots of money by charging ridiculous amounts for the tickets. I also find boxers fighting on terrestrial television for free more impressive than selling loads of PPVs. Cos as a boxing fan, I dont ****ing want to pay for the stuff. Like I said, it might make you more popular, or a 'bigger name', but I simply wont ever support boxers who I have to pay a fortune to follow their career, and it certainly doesnt make you a 'better' fighter.

I also dont much care for your notoriously 'made up' facts and figures anyway.

Then they should've done. They should also not have been charging thousands upon thousands of pounds for the tickets and they shouldnt be so ****ing greedy in wanting double figures of millions each only to put on an underwhelming fight. People in that crowd will have worked all year along to pay the $10,000 for some of the tickets and for what? To see Maywhether run away and DLH run out of steam?

I'd rather see a Hatton fight free on the TV or for £50 to go to the fight and watch him fight knowing that he'll actually respect the money I've spent to see him. Even if he does just end up hugging his opponent, at least I've not bankrupted myself for the privledge of seeing an underwhelming performance.
