For all the people trying to downgrade Floyd's win or say that he "barely" won, please stop riding Oscar's ****. I choose Oscar to win before the fight but he lost and clearly lost. Mayweather out slicked oscar and won most of the closer rounds. Oscar looked good at times though and showed that he is still a viable threat to all the people at 154 and 147, Mayweather in my opinion is a boarderline ATG, he is a defensive genius and the slickest fighter since Pernell Whitaker. People need to stop trying to discredit his obvious skills and smarts just because he acts like a **** outside of the ring.

Oh and just for future reference I'm not a Floyd Mayweather nut hugger.
    Good post,

Now their are people who score it on effective aggressiveness, , does that mean theyre riding on Oscars ****

If they scored it on pure aggression, i could see them having Oscar ahead. His agression wasn't very "effective" he would rush inside and only land about 3-4 punches and then go back and wait for about 30 seconds, he had his moments where he was winging combonations and landing some good shots and he took some of the rounds where he did that but overall Floyd's defense and consistency won him the fight. Boxing is scored on 4 rules not just agression.

      - Ring Generalship: Goes to Floyd
      - Clean EFFECTIVE punching: Goes to Floyd
      - Defense: Goes to Floyd
      - Effective Aggression: That one can go to Oscar just because he was the only agressor really.

I think that some of you were blinded by Oscar's flashy shots when he had Mayweather on the ropes more which weren't very effective to begin with, rather then Mayweather's effectiveness in the middle of the ring and his speed advantage. I think that it was a relativly close fight but the winner was clear.

Sugar Ray Leonard was fun to watch, don't compare bitches like Mayweather to greats such as him.

He has done something no one has ever done, and has won against bigger and stronger fighters. He can even take a punch at 154, imagine that a 135 pound fighter that fought a 154 pound match AND WON. Nobody has ever done that, this man is undefeated... &tc &tc &tc
Roberto Duran won his first title at lightweight in 1972 and his final title at middleweight in 1989.

Over the course of his career he knocked out about twice as many professional boxers as Floyd Mayweather has yet faced. And his foes included "bigger and stronger" (and frequently faster and younger) opponents like Pipino Cuevas, Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns and Marvelous Marvin Hagler who had some little notoriety themselves. You may have heard of some of these people.

It's nice that you've taken an interest in boxing and have found a great champion to look up to and idolize. But please maintain some historical/rational perspective as some of the things you're saying are not only factually wrong, but are deeply disrespectful to many of the great heroes of boxing's long history.

            i voted no
i think hes is without a doubt the most gifted and talented fighter today
but he just doesnt look brillant in there
probably has to do alot with the fact the he streaching himself out fighting bigger guys recently so he has to be alot more cautious but that doesnt make u all time great

a old sweet pea(all time great) look brillant against a prime de la hoya
and prime mayweather didnt look brillant against an old de la hoya

u have to put this things into perspective

mayweather at 130 was really was great or good at 135 couldve been great dont know he didnt stay long enough and besides castillo their were no other noteworthy fights but he did beat a prime castillo in the second fight and argubably in the first (according to some )and without a doubt hes a future hall famer with a win over castillo and a name as big as oscar on his ledger

but compared to all time great i dont think he makes the cut

The initial question in the thread title and the one for the poll are two different things. Mayweather is already a clear first ballot HOF'er. He's got unbelievable talent and has the work ethic to equal it. It's rare to see.

However asking if you "think" of Mayweather when bringing up Sugar Ray Leonard is kind of a loaded question. Is he as "great" as Leonard right now? I would say no. Leonard fought a lot of great names in his times but he he also had the benefit (legacy speaking) of fighting in a talent rich era.

Mayweather doesn't have guys like Hearns/Benitez/Duran/Hagler etc to clash swords with.

Instead of comparing things that way, let's look at the other way around.

I'm sure most if not everyone would agree that Ray would defeat every opponent Floyd has faced. But what if Leonard was fighting now? How highly would you rate him for beating Oscar/Castillo/Coralles/Judah?

Hopkins is my favourite fighter man, but Hopkins fought smaller fighters in DLH and Tito, etc while Floyd fought bigger and stronger fighters than him.

I think he is an all time great, I wouldnt rank him up there with guys like SRR SRL or Hagler but he is definately a great fighter with an impressive record
if he does keep fighting and winning then he deserves his props, but refusuing to fight as many guys as Floyd has doesnt make you the greatest, I personally think he waited for Tszyu to retire before he made a push in the ww division, Kostya would have hurt him
yes I know Kostya was 140
