Man, this really kinda hit me hard. He was one of my favorite fighters and Ive always said that if I were to consider someone my hero it would be Holyfield and Corrales for the way they fought and never backed down and never quit.

Ive seen him numerous times at fights and at the airport. He was just training at my gym for the Clottey fight. I didnt really wanna bother him and get in his way to ask for an autograph or take pictures. Looking back now I wish I would have told him how much of a fan I am and taken pictures, but I talked to him a few times and even joked with him and I can say Ive had the honor to share a gym with him... Im kinda in a weird limbo. I found out at work by a text message and read the article in the newspaper three times and it still doesnt really register. I cant believe it

          R.I.P Diego "Chico" Corrales

I first heard about this watching "Headline News" and along the ticker at the bottom scrolled the following: "Former boxing champion Diego "Chico" Corrales was killed in a motorcycle accident Monday".

I was floored, I had no words or thoughts for that matter about what to think. It was as if someone has reached into my chest and taken out my heart. Slowly reality sank in and I realized Chico was gone forever. I cried, I'm man enough to admit it. My love for Diego was always unconditional and he was always in my "top" list of favorite fighters, even when he lost.

Diego was a true warrior in the ring and outside of it he was a great man. A loving father and caring husband, Diego never mixed words when it came to his family and fans. I will miss him dearly and no fighter could ever take his place in my heart, it's because of guys like Corrales that I love this sport and he can never be replaced. His heart was unmeasurable, he always got up, always. He always kept coming forward and it was that attitude that drew so many of us to him.

My thoughts are with his family and friends. I can only imagine the pain they feel from this loss.

It's amazing you know? You watch this sport and watch these guys fight and over the years you come to know them in a way. Through their epic fights and various interviews you get to know these warriors and it hurts me on the deepest level when something like this happens. In a weird way, I feel I knew Chico. Because I knew he loved me, he loved having me (as well as the rest of you) as a fan. I loved him right back.

Unconditional baby, unconditional. R.I.P Diego, you were always in my heart and you always will be.....
