People dont understand what GATTI has done for boxing...

I constantly hear people talk about gatti and how he was an exciting fighter that was never really able to get to the mainstream fan and never was very as popular as he should have been.

What people dont realize is that before Gatti-Ward I,II,and III, and before Gatti arrived on the scene, Boxing in ATLANTIC CITY and FOXWOODS was all but dead.

But now, a near capacity crowd shows up for every event, even the ESPN fight cards.

The guy is almost solely responsible for the ressurection of boxing in two states, conneticut and new jersey. thats something to be proud of

Gatti was great for Boxing. He needed Bob or Don to help him with his hype machine. He wasn't the most skilled boxer around, but you got a **** for you buck with him.

People love him, and mistake him for a great fighter. When I told my buddies that Mayweather and DLH both destroyed Gatti they didnt believe me. Exciting fighters like Gatti will always get more respect and praise than guys like Mayweather.

Well they were going ape**** for DLH's flurries. I dont think the casual fan knows what rolling with the punches is though.

Gatti was a very entertaining fighter.

His first fight with Robinson and first fight with Ward were classics. So was his bout with Rodriguez. His fights with Patterson, rubber match with Ward, rematch with Robinson, loss to Manfredy, loss to Baldomir, win over Daamgard...were all pretty good fights as well.

I give him the mantle of being the most exciting fighter from 95-98. From 2000-on though, I give that to Morales. Somewhere along the line, it was passed to Pac-man.

Gatti was great for boxing. He brings toughness and heart into every fight. Yeah he wasn't that great skill wise, but damn he was exciting to watch. I hope this is his last fight with Gomez. Don't get me wrong I would love to still see him fight, but I would like to see him call it quits for his own sake.

Don't forget the Gabby Ruelas fight, that was a classic. Great is a subjective word, and depends for the qualities you look for he was in no way a great boxer, but he was a great fighter and played his part in more great fights than most. Don't forget boxing is a spectator sport, you can watch a "boring" fight and if you know what your looking for there's a lot to admire in there, but the sport would be in a lot of trouble without the excitement that fighters like gatti bring to the ring.
Gatti will always be one of my favourite fighters because of the sacrifices he made in the ring, he could have won that 1st ward fight if he'd not been drawn into a war but irespect him more for helping to produce an all time classic fight rather than just chalking another one in the Win column.
Put it this way, i would rather own a dvd of gattis top 5 fights than most boxers out there who are considered "great"
