Wit and Wisdom of Larry Merchant

They're crazy to let this guy go. Isn't Showtime or ESPN just going to pick him up?

Mayweather said he wanted to go toe to toe. What he really wants is to go hand to hand

This is high-speed chess between two outstanding fighters but clearly the speedier is Mayweather

I know Oscar de la Hoya, and he's no Zab Judah.

This is an argument with fists and the younger man seems to be winning the argument

Its likely that Cinco de Mayo is becoming May … weather

If HBO let Max take Larry's spot they're utterly ******.
But, I'd love to see someone smack Max in the face a few hundred times. I think Larry and Max should face off on the Vargas-Mayorga card for the spot.

    Larry UD.

Larry you'll be missed more than Floyd and Oscar.

Al Bernstein is my favorite announcer. He doesn't try to be too colorful and over the top like Jim "cheerleader" Lampley.

Bobby Czyz is my favorite analyst. He really made a great point about Holyfield's tactic in his first match against Tyson. He picked it up as soon as he saw it. Too bad he's a worse drunk than Merchant.

Will Merchant show up on another network? This article isn't too old.

"I find it a little surprising that I still love to do this," he says in closing. "But I'm not anywhere near to being burned out. It's all still fascinating and exciting to me."
