    2008 Olympics

Is there anyone on the USA team that is considered a serious gold medal threat as of now? Does anyone here keep track of the international amateur scene?

I was just looking at the USA boxing website. Gary Russell Jr. got a bronze medal at the world championships at the age of 17. With three more years of maturity he should be a gold medal contender. Same with Raushee Warren.

Are you saying Danny Jacobs is a gold medal threat because he is your buddy? or is he actually one of the top guys in the world? Obviously I'm sure he is a terrific fighter, but would someone who doesn't know him personally also consider him a gold medal threat?

Jacobs is ranked number 2 in the country right now at middleweight I hear. He lost to this Andrade kid from Rhode Island a few months ago. But he is considered by most pundits to be a particularly gifted fighter. I could run off names of pros who he has taken to the woodshed. In a four round fight, he's nearly unbeatable.

Looking at the USA boxing website again, it looks like Andrade is only a welterweight and just won the national golden gloves. If he was able to beat Jacobs then maybe this guy is medal threat, especially if he was moving up a weight class to fight Jacobs. Or maybe Jacobs was moving down.

I think USA boxing needs to use the computer point scoring system more in the amateur contests. This way there will be better results at the olympics than in recent years. I guess we'll find out whether or not there are any real medal threats when the world championships happen later this year in Chicago.

Who do you think will win : Cuba, Russia or USA?

Was close between Cuba and Russia last time. I think Cuba will win once again. Think about the day where communism will collapse in Cuba, all the great boxers we'll get
