That in the end though, is a problem. If boxing's to retain any popularity, it has to appeal to more than just other boxers and hardcore fans. The reality is that it must also impress those looking for a "flashier" game, at least sometime.
Mayweather is easily one of my favourite fighters, and maybe "THE" boxer who I try to emulate. But I can't help but think his style is not the best for "THE" boxer that everyone's supposed to know.
De La Hoya is a ****ing movie, people eat him up and demand more. Mayweather however, doesn't really appeal to those outside a narrow range.
As far as "our sport" goes, I find that problematic
