Versatile, you're one of the most useless posters on this site.
You give absolutely no intellectual insight in any of your posts whatsoever, and I'm starting to believe that you just don't have the mental capacity to do so.
So I'm not going to get mad at you, after all, it's not your fault you were born ******.
Anyway, what happened to Oscar by KO?Comment

I agree with the fact that Judah knocked Floyd down, but what I meant was that it was not official. Bad choice of words I guess. However, I reviewed the fight several times thereafter. The punch that caused the knockdown didn't seem to cause any lingering inflicted effects on Mayweather, which leads me to believe it wasn't a necessarily effective punch. It seems more as if Mayweather lost his balance, but it still should have been called. Regardless of the call I think it's safe to say Mayweather won the fight easily in points regardless of whether or not you count the knock down on your scorecards. It certainly isn't a legitimate reason to doubt his skill or status.Comment

Yeah, your right. People don't like Floyd, so he's not a legitimate Hall of Famer. He didn't win impressively. Hmmm... I guess he's not a good fighter then. It doesn't matter that De La Hoya was his opponent, Mayweather just bored him to death. It doesn't matter that De La Hoya lost the fight, people remember this as the day Mayweather showed the world that he's not a top contender. More words and inflated opinions to substantiate an illegitimate reality. He's good, but he blew it today. Actually they both blew it, but Delahoya's legacy will be intact. No one cares about Floyd Mayweather Jr. He talked so much crap about how he was going to do this and that, how it was going to be a massacre, didn't see anything resembling that. He's a good boxer, but his style doesn't win over people and if he's suppose to be the face of the future that saves boxing, he failed miserably today.
Like I said, you can hate him all you want, but that doesn't change much of anything. So he's "boring", but does he win fights? Consistently? Effectively? Against good opponents? Hmmm...
Mayweather isn't my favorite boxer either, but the general public opinion is laughable; it makes me sick. It goes to show you how biased the average boxing fan is in terms of rationality. They go by their heart and avoid rationalization only justification in confirmation of their biased subjective opinions. Another reason why I hate this world -- no one thinks.
P.S. Unscarred, I appreciate your input on my thread and apologize if my rant seems demeaning. I wasn't directing my response at you necessarily, it was simply a general statement as many seem to have the same opinion.Comment

Italianmafia23, I am not descrediting what you wrote. Infact it was well written. I think Mayweather is a great fighter and has a lot of skill and potential; like most I am happy the fight even happened. But I was dissapointed with not only the hype of the fight, but with Mayweather himself for having verbally elevating the fight to a level of a gatti-ward type fight or even a mayweather-gatti. He won, there is no dis*****g, but if he's to be the face of boxing, he doesn't have it. He's masterful yes, but, he's not exciting. This was supposed to be his opportunity to shine and while I think most of us expected him not to go in there and slug, I and many others felt he could've put a bit more effort, not only because of the magnitude of the event, because he said he would himself.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. can win all the fights he wants, but, with his current style, no one will remember/care for him, nevermind put him alongside the greats. The greats generally had the ability to finish of their fighters and they fought in entertaining fashion; Floyd for the most employs a 'safety first' style. It's a smart style in terms of preserving his health and it works for him, it gets him the W, but, when it comes down to it, he just isn't entertaining and that is what puts people's asses in the seats. Look at Mike Tyson, he was a monster back in the day and everyone knows who he is, and he was mediocre the second half of his career...he lives off the excitement of his initial run!
Not taking away from Floyd, he is very skilled, probably the best of our time, but he just isn't adept enough to be 'the man'. Whether that be his personality, or unwillingness to mix it up and be exciting, I don't think he is capable of being the represenitive of boxing as all the opportunities he's had to shine in, he hasn't come through. Remember, the PEOPLE are what makes you great and noticed, not skills. Surely Arturo Gatti isn't so popular and well known because of classical boxing, elite, virtuoso performances........Last edited by Unscarred1985; 05-06-2007, 01:55 AM.Comment

The last 3 lines say all,Ha... here we go again... who else can we add in to the mix? Let's trash Mayweather some more, shall we? Maybe we can confuse some laypersons into believing Mayweather to be an incompetent boxer. How else can we undermine his accomplishments? Let's think...
Personally, I think there are a lot of negativists out there that give any round they conceivably can to the opposing boxer in hopes that Mayweather be discredited once and for all -- because they dislike him as a person, and therfore as a boxer as well. I can honestly say, I can see why he is hated, but there isn't any reason to undermine his accomplishments. He's a definate Hall of Famer regardless of public opinion.
I see a consistent digging for any conceivable flaw anti-Mayweather advocates can find to discredit Floyd's skill and high echelon status. I will cite for example the Castillo fight of which I scored a win by Floyd by just one point, although I do solemnley admit that the fight was close and could certainly be argued as a win for Castillo. However, shouldn't it be important to consider the fact that Mayweather was fighting with a hurt hand and torn rotator cuff? Wouldn't it make sense to add these advantages/disadvantages into the equation? Shouldn't the definitive result of the rematch be considered when arguing that Castillo was the better fighter? Even if Castillo managed to pull off a decision, he lost the rematch. One should recall the fact that Lennox Lewis lost a few in his time as well, but he rematched and defeated every fighter that he lost to. Now he is considered one of the greatest of all time regardless of the losses, why not Floyd? De La Hoya has lost 4, now 5 times, and yet there is no reason to doubt his skill? That's a clear indication of confirmation bias by the incompetent amatuer analyst.
You can't say he hasn't fought anyone; he has. There's no reason to question his chin; he's never been knocked out. No reason to doubt his stamina; he's gone the distance and shown no indications of tiring in more than a few fights against legitimate competition. There's no reason to question past losses; he has none.
So what has he done? Why should he be considered one of the greatest all-time? Well, for starters, as an amatuer boxer he won the National Golden Gloves Championship, three times (1993, 1994, 1996). He won the bronze medal in the 1996 olympics. Hes never been (legitimately) knocked down in his entire professional career after 38 fights. He consistently dominated the scorecards sometimes winning complete consensus shut outs against top ranked boxers. He is 17-0 in World Title Bouts. He ripped through competition to win world titles in 4, now 5, different weight classes. He defeated a boxing legend and future Hall of Famer in Oscar De La Hoya.
They said he couldn't beat Gatti because Gatti had power Mayweather had never encountered before -- Mayweather dominated. They said he couldn't beat Judah because Judah would match or even exceed Mayweathers speed -- Mayweather took him to school winning an easy decision. Some even stretched it as much to say he couldn't beat Baldomir because he lacked the experience -- Mayweather won by a complete shut out on 2 out of 3 scorecards. They said he couldn't beat a legend like Oscar, he did...
Why can't people just suck it up and accept his status as the best pound for pound fighter in the world? No one said you had to like him, but you have to respect him for what he is -- One of the greatest boxers of all time.
The bitches said he would get knocked out,
He won.
He proved himself.
Game over.Comment
