What i have learned about DLH/Mayweather and how i feel about it

In the last 6 months i have closely followed this board as well as various other outlets having to do with boxing. If its one thing i have learned, its that i know now people truely do hang onto the words that fighters say in press conference. The reality is, most people pay attention to trash talk and the like far more than they do skill and ability in alot of cases, especially amongst the average fan. I have found that on this board amongst the hardcore boxing fans, that alot of you fall into this very trap. From Floyd saying hes going to go toe-to-toe to DLH saying hes going to fight dirty and low blow, i would have thought alot of fans would discard that kind of ****. But in reality alot of you buy into it.

Sometimes a statement comes out about a fighter someone may like, and they will agree with it. And if another similar statement comes out about a fighter whos personality they DONT like, they will tear it down, based solely on their dislike for that particular fighter. The best part about alot of this is, alot of you talk about being humble while you sit there and outright insult people calling them "****ing idiots" "morons" etc page after page. Alot of you who preach this lesson in humility on this board dont practice it themselves.

Everyone has their say or their right to say something. I personally have a hard time with this fight. I have followed de la hoyas career since i was very very young. I always admired the fact that he was an american and fought his way through the olympics. I always respected him to the point where i have never once rooted against him, even against Bernard Hopkins, i put money on de la hoya and cheered him on all the way up until the KO.

With Floyd jr i have admired his ability and his work ethic in the gym for years, much of his personality i dont even pay attention too, because i dont ****ing care. I have been around atheletes all of my life, 2 of which are in the NFL who i played with in high school (in particular dallas cowboys safety roy williams). I can tell you alot of that talk reflects very little on how an athelete actually is. I think floyd talks up a pretty good game, but i never let that cloud my judgement on a fighter.

When Ricardo Mayorga fought de la hoya and trashed him, i wanted de la hoya to KO him because i hated Mayorgas style, just wailing punches about. When DLH fought Vargas, i was glad to see DLH silence Vargas who i felt accomplished very little since getting blased by Trinidad and had very little right to rip a fighter who had beaten (in my opinion) him just 3 years before.

Those fights for DLH are different than this one though. Because the man tearing him down has accomplished very much in the sport, with 3 ring titles in 4 weight classes, and now embarking on his 5th belt in his 5th class, i feel that Mayweather has every right to say what he feels, because i feel hes earned it. Its easy to talk a good game, but when you have very little to show for it, people dont want to hear it. I hear all the time on this site "mayweather hasnt fought anyone" "castillo beat mayweather" etc etc. But when its all said and done, people look at stat sheets, they look at boxrec etc. They look at undisputed titles, they look at belts won, and opponents, who they beat etc. Those things all make up a legacy.

DLH beat alot of fighters past their prime, but it doesnt matter, he beat them and thats what matters. I respect DLH to the point where i would support and pay for any of his fights, and i have for the last 9 years ive had a job. And i give that same respect to mayweather, because again, he has accomplished so much in so many weight classes, i feel at this point, just like my hero pernell whitaker, people are looking for any crack in his armour to trash him.

After its all said and done, weather DLH wins or Mayweather wins, nothing is going to matter about whos past it, whos old, whos this and whos that, who ducked who etc. All that will matter is 2 olympians with multiple championship belts squaring off in one of the biggest fights of our generation.

This is true. This is a great match up. Floyd is fighting his toughest opponent in years. This is his toughest fight since 2002 when he faught Castillo. This is what boxing is about, two of the best fighting each other to see who the better fighter is.

Great post Black Jesus & I agree with you. I just wish that more people would just sit back & enjoy the fight. Hopefully we'll get our moneys worth out of it.

these guys know how to represent themselves well. i think that's one of the reasons the fight is so prolifically publicized. it's good for boxing. personally, i wouldn't buy too much into this act of intense rivalry. by the end of the match, no matter who gets the nod, i predict they'll both be smiling and hugging each other all the way to the bank!

as far as mayweather is concerned, stylistically speaking, you can do nothing but respect the man. i think skills-wise he is pound-for-pound the best out there in the world today. but as far as accomplishments go, i think he has a lot more to prove. he has not achieved undisputed recognition and nothing in his fight schedule even suggests that he is planning to unify. this man needs to increase his level of competition. de la hoya's a good start but he is by no means the best opponent out there

basically what i see is a very talented individual wasting his legacy among boxing's knowledgeable by belt-hunting. it may look good in the recordbooks, but that's no way to impress the fans. that's my opinion, anyway.

and finally, he did get beat by castillo (115-111 by my scorecard) but that's in the past and i'm willing to let that go. it was a bad call; not a particularly rare occurence in boxing so whatever.

amazing post black jesus. i respect your appreciation for mayweather and his legacy. people on here call me a floyd nuthugger, and somebody even out in under my username, i suck floyd's ****, and with all of this, majority of what i read on this forum are complaints by people who can't stand floyd's attitude and i'm willing to bet that more than half have never seen all of mayweather's fights. they go off of other people's opinion and columns, and they feel secure to analyze floyd's career. i've been apart of this forum for 9 months now, and many people have been apart of this forum longer than me, and i have outposted the veterans this forum, and it wasn't hard to do, seeing how i gave logical reasoning, and actual facts, and all they gave was insults and nonsense. i have lost a lot of respect for this forum and many the people
              on it.

besides a handful of you, you guys and girls post arguments with no substance and decency. even if you make posts claiming that so and so would beat the hell of mayweather or whoever, you could still give logical reasoning to help your argument besides mayweather has no class in the 1st sentence followed by mosley would kill floyd. oscar will ko floyd. hatton would beat floyd. hearns, hagler, and leonard would all destroy floyd. duran would beat the hell out of floyd. ray robinson would have killed floyd. all of these claims are you guys's opinions true, but many of these claims stem from floyd's attitude, and it isn't fair to him or his legacy. you guys seem to forget the fact that floyd mayweather comes from a fighting family of trash talkers. he was basically born in to the sport of boxing. his father was aboxer who laid the groundwork for floyd, and his father was a fighter who stressed defense and instilled it in floyd jr. his father taught him how to move for 12 rounds and floyd has stuck with it, yet, you people are so into human punching bag contests that fighters like gatti and manny pacqioau are heros in boxing, and floyd is a wuss, because all he does is run. no, he boxes smart and makes opponents look like fools in doing so. you people act as if if you were in the ring, you would go toe-to-toe with boxers. walk in floyd's shoes when he fights, ane then tell me how it feeks afterwards. he boxes beautifully. he lives and breaths boxing. it's his primary source of income. it's his foundation, and he has given his blood, sweat, tears, and life to the sport of boxing. he has amazed people with his skills, he has made people mad with his skills, he has made people cry with his skills, he has made people happy with his skills, he has made people bored with his skills, enraged, shocked, and he kept people in awe with skills. he has brought out so many emotions in people with his skill. he is that good.

many people on this forum lack appreciation of boxing as an artform. floyd appreciates boxing as an art. he has pured his soul into the art. he has given his soul to boxing, and whether you love him or hate him, respect is due to the highest degree to him and credit is also in order to the highest degree. he has had tough battles, easy battles, competitive battles, and chess match battles. above all else, he has proved why he is considered the p4p number 1 fighter in boxing, because many experts appreciate boxing for what it is, an artform, and floyd is the primary opitomy of boxing. it's what he does best, it's what he knows well, it's what he lives. all of the other things floyd do is irrelevant when it comes to boxing, and fighting in the ring. he is undefeated and he backs up his trash talking like one is supposed to do. when will you people get this? maybe never, maybe after he's long gone from boxing, maybe soon, i don't know or for that matter don't really care. the man performs like a virtuoso prize fighter who cares about his job is suppose to. he wins the best way he knows how, he fights to win, and he knows how to win. he fights very well under adversity and in tough situations and he gives it his all like a true champion. he is hated, he is loved, he is despised, he is envied, but above all that, he is not respected like he should be and truly desrves to be for his legacy. all of this talent and skillful crap means nothing when his record is looked at like it means nothing. i'll never understand that. maybe it's not for me to understand, mabve it's not for floyd jr to understand, but even with the name bashing, criticism, controversy, envy, hate, love, lack of respect, and lack of knowledge by many, floyd fights through it all, and his faith in God keeps him going, and he knows that only God can judge him when it's all said and done, and with his belief in this, he is that much more compelling imo. he lived his life the way he knew how, and he stayed true to himself when a lot of fighters put on a gimmick image. floyd mayweather is a boxing legend and fufture hall of famer, and he is unquestionably an all time great by all means. floyd, from a former boxer, a fan of yours, and someone who appreciates the artform and sport of boxing, you are better than anyone will ever know. your love and dedication as well as hard work to the sport of boxing is appreciated and loved by me and many other boxing fans i'm sure. you are a living legend, bar none.
