    Don’t Underestimate Oscar’s Size Advantage

By Brent Matteo Alderson - Don’t underestimate Oscar in this fight. Even though he’s been relatively inactive, he looked great in his last fight against Ricardo Mayorga. Although Mayorga isn’t the reincarnation of Sugar Ray Robinson, he was a world class fighter with a big punch and had brawled on even terms with the likes of Cory Spinks and Vernon Forrest, two guys that today, are top contenders in the 154-pound division. Throw in the fact that Oscar frequently used his right hand in the bout, a punch that he neglected during the first half of his career and it still appears as though Oscar is a very dangerous fighter who is near the top of his game. This is a great article and I completely agree with most of it. I cant believe so many people are downplaying the size advantage. Its huge. Now, that doesnt mean Floyd doesnt have the skills to overcome it but its still a big deal. To me the only way he loses is because of it. Im not trying to take anything away from Oscar but its fact. People are crazy who say that it doesnt matter because they started at the same weight. Oscar has always been much bigger and Floyd has definatly moved up super quick. They say that he doesnt look much bigger at the weigh-in but thats also a joke. Oscar has 3 inches on him and there bodies are only similar because they basically have to weigh-in at the same weight. In that ring Oscar will be around 170 while Floyd will still be 150. Im the biggest Floyd fan and I thought he easily outclassed Baldy but I thought Baldy even pushed him around some and showed a huge size advantage. Im hoping Floyd was just dogging it in that fight just to make sure he won and didnt mess up the Oscar fight or to throw Oscar off.

The weight is a bigger deal then people think and I have always said that Floyd doesnt get nearly enough credit for fighting these bigger guys. He's constantly the much smaller man in the ring. He's a very small guy. Skill wise he has what it takes to win and maybe even dominate but it will be interesting

If the Golden Boy wants to win this one he will have to pressure the Pretty Boy with the hope of wearing him down, chopping his legs off and knocking him out in the later rounds. If he has to dehydrate to make weight then he won't have enough gas in the tank to get the job done. The fact is the size difference doesn't mean ****. Mayweather knows that he has to win this fight on points, chances are he doesn't have the firepower to knockout DLH even if DLH runs out of gas. Mayweather knows what DLH has to do to win and he knows exactly how to prevent it from happening. The only way I see Mayweather losing is if he gets careless and gets hit by a lefthook.

Make that about 3-4 left hooks.

I say people should stop overestimating size. Same with Oscar's punching power.

vs Sturm at 154, Oscar should have lost.

Tonight he's fighting Mayweather at 154. Jeez.

Goodluck Oscar, coz I hate you less than Mayweather. Though I think Mayweather is the best boxer today.

^ I disagree with that. Oscar was fat against Sturm. Its so obvious he didnt take him seriously.

That maybe true....but he got tagged by the one armed jabber all night. I mean...Sturm didn't give him any angles at all. Mayweather will hit you where he ain't, as the saying goes.

I disagree with your projected DLH strategy. I think he will be looking to take him out in the round 5/6 mark, so the weight could be a factor.
I do agree thought that if he has drained himself he will be blowing late on so i think rather than wearing him down i think he'll try and cut the ring down and instigate a rough fight almost to the point of being dirty. I think that the ref could be a factor, de la hoya will try and rough him up, push off the clinches and punch on the break. Its in his interest to generate as many fight potential fight ending exchanges as possible right in his face which negates the speed and reflex factor as much as you can do with a fighter as good as mayweather. Don't know which way to go on this, helluva fight though i hope.
