The thing that "SAVES BOXING" will not be a fight.

No matter what happens May 5th, or in any fight after that, the sport of boxing wont be saved.

It has to be a real improvement to the sport. Like 1 or 2 champs per division, that would definetly save boxing.

ANd its gotta lose its complicated and meaningless politics that scare off fans.

No matter how good this superfight is, or the one after that and after that and after that, it wont be enough to save boxing.

And as we all know, boxing basically needs to be on its knees before anyone with any power decides to make any changes. So it'll be a while, but boxing will be mainstream again someday.

I dont beleave all that Boxing is dead bull**** maybe the Heavy's are a little quite but eventually that Division will get better, the way I look at it we have new nationalitys gettying into boxing for Example The fillipinos are all over boxing now that they have a good champion and the armenians showed Vic Darchynian allot of support in his last fight, If boxing was dead or even close to been dead then their wouldnt be so many PPV's.

Its what they do after this fight that will determine that. You could say this is a great start.

Good post. I know boxing isn't as popular as it used to be, but in other countries it's thriving. There are many good british boxers, and a lot of fans show support for them. Also Puerto Rican fans are passionate about their boxers. The sport thrives in other countries. Here in the US it might not be the most popular anymore, but that doesn't mean in other countries it isn't.

Bill Simmons "the sports guy" had a great article in the latest issue of ESPN the magaizine (with Mayweather on the cover) about why boxing has declined in popularity. He cites the lack of one belt per weight class and numerous other politcal factors for this. I think that boxing could really learn from UFC's business model and they may have to eventually...
