    The State of Boxing

I just got done reading three articles from the new ESPN magazine, with PBF on the cover.

The first one was written by Bill Simmons on how the Oscar/floyd fight is the "Last Big Fight" is what he referred it as, and he mentioned things like kids don't grow up wanting to be the next Ali, they want to be the next LeBron, Griffey, Brady or Tiger. He pretty much is saying that boxing is dead.

This gets to me. Is it just BSPN and their random bull**** or is this sport really dying in America.

So basically this thread is for what will bring it back to the top with the NFL, NBA and MLB??

Boxing is for real men. People who want to box, never quit are bitches.

Let everyone talk there ****. I was reading "The Ring Magazine"

      William Dettloff said..... (Writer ofcourse)

"There's so much talk about boxing being a dead sport you'd think everyone involved is a mortician. Well, we're here to tell you folks: It this is what dead is like, there's something going on in the graveyard that we can't see. If there's nothing going on in boxing, who is getting and giving concussions? What's all that blood doing on the canvas? And why do the top promoters have so much money?

      The Ring Magazine
      July 2007

Last big fight my ass, theres many great fights to be made. Boxing isn't dead, it's immortal and it's never going away. Believe that ****.

I know I went to an amatuer event a couple of weeks ago here in Colorado and I was surprised about how many kids were there. It got me excited and I realized just because boxing doesn't get talked about a lot on ESPN or other sports networks doesn't mean it's dead.

It's not that kids don't want to fight. But, for one thing, they have too many other distractions these days. More different drugs, scoring girls younger, video games, skateboards, role models who make zillions playing sports where they don't get knocked out, etc. And many cities don't want or encourage boxing. They have reduced the funding and facilities. They encourage other sports with less risk and expense, like soccer. Most schools never had a boxing program, only wrestling at best. Without a solid club system, boxing will always remain a hit-and-miss proposition here in the States with our best boxers growing up in the ****** or transplanted from foreign countries like Mexico.....

Exactly. Those kids fight their hearts out and they all dream of growing up to be the next Ali.

Boxing is in a good state but usally like many other it has cycles sometimes it is hight in popularity and somedays are not.

anyway there is alway been UFC fighters and it ower talking about boxing to get it's own publicy and you rarely hear boxing calls out UFC because it really doesnt need that much of the publicity like the UFC.

People are just thinking too much from an American POV.

It may be less popular in America but look at how many quality fighters are coming from all over the globe.

What we need is more gyms and better teachers.. Sometimes dudes have fought a couple am fights then they start training people like they know the sport.. Like Manny Stewart said I believe "WE DON'T NEED TRAINERS, WE NEED FIGHT TEACHERS."
