Two different outcomes are possible in my mind-neither of which are going to leave us talking about what a great fight we all just watched. (Hope Im wrong)
Lets me start by saying this...Floyd is a very big favorite in this fight make no bones about it-we all watch HBO's 24-7, we all read the fighter quotes and somehow we are led to believe that this fight is somewhere close to even when it is absolutely not.
Recall when Mayweather fought Gatti, when that fight was signed months in advance it was considered a SLAUGHTER yet as HBO did their spin on things and you caught wind of "what if Gatti can land a couple big ones" folks started talking themselves into giving Gatti a shot in the fight where as months earlier those same folks gave him no shot. (not comparing Gatti and
Oscar as fighters but what has happended during the build up of both fights is similar)
Point is that promotions are designed to hype the fight and it is hard to hype a fight when you tell the complete truth which would be Oscar is in real ****ing deep come Saturday night.
One more meanigless sidenote-I would give up my only remaining ball for an Oscar KO victory.
Scenario #1 (which I consider to be the easy/smart way out in terms of a prediction)
Floyd cruises to a UD by winning 9-10 rounds, never really giving the fans what they want but the talent and speed difference in the ring is so jaw dropping that by round 6 or 7-quite possibly earlier you realize the fight for all intensive purposes is over. Floyd being smart is content on using his speed and his legs to walk circles around Oscar throwing in the lead right hand occassionally and constantly making Oscar reset himself, reset himself reset himself. Oscar fails miserably at cutting off the ring and by the midway point of the fight finds his legs to be anything but fresh. Floyd puts a decent little beating on Oscar in the final three rounds giving Oscar his most embarrassing moments in the ring ever-even worse then his KO loss to Bernard-at least he was in that fight.
Scenario #2 (this is the prediction that my heart wants me to make so Im gonna make it)
Oscar decides he has no business boxing or "fighting tall" as Teddy Atlas said he needed to do, Oscar realizes that by consistently throwing his jab out there only will lead to the right hand coming right back over the top so he takes a page, or trys to take a page from Ricky Hatton's book. He attempts to make this fight a phone booth kind of fight.
Of course Floyd is not going to just let Oscar fight him how Oscar wants to fight him so you will see Floyd on his bicycle constantly throughout this fight as Oscar struggles to cut off the ring and catch up to the slickster.
Rounds will be very tough to score-what do you like more-the agressor or the guy who is landing more but not really willing to fight all that much. Floyd lands a few pot shots and Oscar is able to once in a while catch up to Floyd and corner him against the ropes... landing anything he can land high on the head in close, shoulder shots, a few to the body, some low-your basic roughhousing tactics when he gets his rare chances but nothing really on the button.
So we have Oscar the clear aggressor wanting to give the crowd what they are hoping for, a REAL fight and Floyd who is not willing to give the crowd thrills at the risk of being caught is ok with cycling around Oscar trying to land jabs into his stomach and occassionally landing with his lead right hand that we have seen so often from Lil Floyd.
The fight is uneventful and at times frustrating especially for those that shelled out a lot of money to watch it live...Oscar is placating to the crowd who is on and off again heard booing, the crowd actually sides with Oscar as the agressor and roots him on...you will see Goldie lift his hands to the circling Maweather as if to say "come on mother****er lets fight" the crowd will eat it up but their passion will fade time and time again as Floyd refuses to risk being caught on account of being exciting.(If Floyd wouldnt commit to mixing it up with Baldomir why should anyone think he plans to stand and fight against Oscar)
Who is winning? Floyd is definately landing the cleaner blows and he is even landing a few more total shots as well, Oscar's shot are all coming when they get in close, right at the beginning of the clinches and right before they get broken apart-at times the crowd will be lifted to its feet when Oscar begins flaling away-it will become apparent that Oscar is getting far more credit then he deserves for some of these flurries he is attemtpting to unleash-think of Jermain Taylor against Bernard Hopkins in the first fight.
Oscar dos fade a bit in the last two round swhich really makes it close on the cards-he is still stalking Mayweather but in order to stalk he has given up his ability to let his hands go when he does get close...Mayweather does his best work in the final two rounds.
Fight fans who watched the fight a second time will probably have to admit regardless of how they scored it live that the fight was won closely and clearly by Floyd Maweather Jr. but when the scores are read on Satruday night it will read as a split decision for Oscar Delahoya by way of being the simple aggressor.
There is my stab at things-Oscar by Split-with no remtach.
We will not see Oscar land his mega left hand and we will not see Floyd stand and fight, if floyd stands and fights he gets iced, if Oscar trys to box, jab and move-he gets embarrassed and outclassed.
