In terms of name and money, Vargas is far ahead of Casmayor, but he was an HBO fighter with Main Events backing his play all the way. In terms of skill and class, Casamayor is a much better fighter. Vargas' biggest win, over Wright, is called a robbery by almost everyone and the loss made Wright's career. Casamayor has lost to Freitas, Corrales and Castillo, and some think we was robbed in all three fights. Personally, I had him losing against Corrales and Castillo, but had him winning against Freitas. Casamayor without question has a far better chin, stamin and conditioning. For the last few years, Vargas was killing himself to make 154 because he lets himself go between fights. He enters camp at 200 and spends the whole camp getting down in weight instead of training.
Vargas is actually similiar to Freitas. He came back from behind to win against Wright, like Freitas did with Barrios. When the going gets tough, Vargas ends up losing because he can't switch up and gets knocked out like he did against De La Hoya and the Mosley rematch, like Freitas did with Corrales and Diaz.Comment
