I don't think he was in his prime when he fought either of them. Gatti never had the dedication to training that elite fighters need. He was too much of a party animal and irresponsible jerk outside of the ring. That said, Gatti was severly diminished by repeated savage beatings, even in his victories, by the time Mayweather fought him. That said, Mayweather would still have eaten a more game Gatti alive.
Equally impressive in different ways.
De La Hoya concussed Gatti with superior power.
Mayweather chapped him up and made him look foolish with superior speed.
