Now after actually seeing Benn's fighting I really wonder if Jones would've had him or the other way around.

It's a toss-up, and it doesn't go six if Benn comes out smokin'.

Yeah he's one of my all time favorite fighters.

Less than stellar technique but to me that doesn't mean a damn thing at all. I'm not one of those boxing purist guys although take for instance Roy was the greatest ever and one of my all time favs.....he's like an exception because of how graceful he was and how his reflexes were superb, all that.

Benn came to fight and looked for that. I'll say one thing he would be maybe the ultimate bare knuckle fist fighter in his prime. Hands down.

He'd just tee off. How could someone defend against that? sure you could try and get mobile but he's going to throw those huge ****ing shots and if they land it's just good night.

It's a shame he had to go chasing Eubank for three years because he wasn't as fast at 168 as he was at 160, he just lost speed by trying to bulk up into the 168. He had to work his way up to 168, he could still make 160. It wasn't until 1996 he said he felt he had finally grown into the division, and then along comes Sugarboy Malinga with that ****ing long jab Benn couldn't get past (again, Benn got a gift the first time when he tried to box Malinga, before bringing back the Destroyer for the destruction mission in Rome).

It's also a shame that he went through so many trainers who each tried to change his style. He went through no end of promoters and managers as well. He had too strong a personality.

Still the most exciting and sparkling fighter ever (the Watson, DeWitt, Barkley and McClellan debacles were Rocky Balboa stuff)..

                    Great set of clips Geoff.

I was trained (boxing) in the Army by an Irishman called Bunny Reay, he had coached Nigel back in the day (Terry Marsh as well) and he told a story where they had a back to back all in session where each boxer did 30 seconds with every other boxer at each weight, apparantly Benn floored 6 out of the 9 weights including the heavyweight!

Not sure if it was true but it earned Bunny Reay free pints in the mess!
