This is true. Vitali Klitschko was given the Ring title because he beat the #3 guy in Corrie Sanders. I thought that he should have had to fight Chris Byrd and I think a lot of other boxing fans agree with me.

The Ring title is important to hardcore boxing fans who recognize it. In order for the mainstream media to recognize an undisputed champion that alphabet belts have to be unified though. HBO has started to ignore the Ring championship which is a huge shame since if they were to support it then the Ring belt would become the main belt in boxing. I can tell that HBO is intentionally ingoring the Ring championship policy because Max Kellerman has not been mentioning it since he joined HBO. I can guarantee that they are putting the muzzle on him because he was the Ring belt's biggest supporter when he was with ESPN. It is a travesty that HBO won't get behind this championship.

Aside from their rules, does the "Ring" title really mean anything?
By your reasoning, Kessler would be the true champion at 168 since he holds two titles...

The last Ring champ was actually Chris Byrd... so you would think That would make the Wlad the Ring champ now...

No, because that means at Heavyweight at this moment, someone could defeat Maskaev & Briggs and be considered the best in the world (that is what Ring is attempting to do with their championship policy). Besides if its just 2 belts, then 2 different guys can hold two different titles (since there are 4).

Also the Ring brought back their title policy in opposition to the belts so figuring them in the equation is silly (though I think in the beginning I believe they said if a man held the WBA/IBF/WBC then he was the Ring Champ).

The Ring belt is more respectable than the Sanctioning Bodies. Belts are only worth what people say they are worth.

So, my questions are, why hasn't the Ring crowned a new champ? What will it take for one of the many current champs to win this title? And does this title bring any legitimacy to the champion who holds it even though not unified?
they just don't see a HW that can last and generate big HW fights and actually retain the tilte

Ring hasn't crowned a champ for two reasosn I can see. One is clear: the right fights haven't happened. Byrd-Klit II was between 1 and 10. Byrd was NEVER Ring champ. The other reason is unstated but I think is intuitively derived: They don't want another Vitali catastophe. IMO, they jumped the gun and went overboard sanctioning Klit-Sanders. 1-3 should never be used at all, but especially for THE title in the sport. That 'crowning' did a lot of credibility damage to Ring policy because both Byrd and Ruiz, objectively, had done more than Sanders whose only top ten win was Wlad and who had fought STIFFS. Byrd and Ruiz had faced and beaten multiple top ten guys and the right people knew it.

HBO surprises me. They knock the sanctioning bodies, make cases for 'real' world chmaps, and then refuse to air Casamayor-Freitas II. Huh?

HBO ignores the Ring Championship because they feel they can gain a few more viewers by saying a fight is a "championship" fight just because one of the sanctioning body baubles is on the line.

This is completely untrue. Chris Byrd never held the Ring championship belt.
