Oscar, Arum won’t agree on Pacquiao-Marquez

WORLD Boxing Council president Jose Sulaiman said that while fight fans believe that a rematch between Manny Pacquiao and WBC super featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez would be a classic and should be a logical showdown, it’s impossible to bring the contending promoters Golden Boy’s Oscar de la Hoya and Top Rank’s Bob Arum together to make it happen. Well, if the WBC orders the fight and has a purse bid, neither promoter has a say in it, the winning promoter does.

Arum doesn't want that because then Pac only gets 25% of the purse and Marquez would get 75% (he makes less money that way) so look for Arum to not press Pac's mandatory position and, instead, try for someone not affiliated with GBP, like Valero.

Agreed. The biggest non GBP-fighter options for Pac are Valero and Soto, but Arum doesn't want to match Soto against Pacquiao because if Pac stops Soto, Soto is no longer a valuable commodity...

Valero would be ideal, but his promoters don't want the fight yet. There aren't many other options out there at all, unless Pac wants to move up to fight the Diaz-Freitas winner...both of which I think he could beat.

I think its pretty retarted. GBP is not any better than Top Rank. They are both out to screw the fighters and look out for their best interest and they both have said so.

I hope both Oscar and Arum solve their differences and make this fight happen. But boxing is a business and the promoters usually look for whats best for them not what's best for their boxers or the fans.

I like to see Valero face Pac but this fight will happen only in Japan, unless of course Valero gets medical clearance in the US.

ARUM IS APPEALING TO THE WBC TO MAKE HUMBERTO SOTO THE #1 MANDATORY FOR MARQUEZ, INSTEAD OF PAC. 'CAUSE PAC & ARUM CAN'T AFFORD TO TAKE THE SMALLER CUT, BUT HUMBERTO CAN SINCE HE HASN'T REALLY MADE A NAME FOR HIMSELF. IF MARQUEZ - SOTO DOES HAPPEN. I SEE SOTO WINNING IT, AND THE BELTS GO BACK TO TOP RANK AND EVERYONE GETS TO SEE PAC - SOTO. SAY WHAT YOU WANT ABOUT ARUM, BUT THERE'S NO WAY DLH'S WANNA-BE PRESIDENT OF A COMPANY @SS CAN OUTSMART THE FORMER LAWYER
